First time I took mushrooms one of the participants put on Inner Mounting Flame and I fled outside to listen to traffic going by. I like it fine otherwise.

What a great list. "Hot Buttered Soul" may be the first one that would definitely be on a list of mine that I've not seen make an appearance on any other list yet.

I pretty much knew I'd vote for Ayler from the start, and I did. But I love a bunch of these.

I'd happily spend time with any of these albums, but went with Spectrum as the personal pick that I got when I was super young and have spent the most time with.

i've been on a real mahavishnu orchestra kick lately. i'm going through every live recording i've been able to track down of the original lineup (about 90, give or take a few). hell of a live act.

Brass Construction because its also one of my top 50 ever

It’s between Giant Steps and Brilliant Corners, tough choice.

Went for Out to Lunch. It's neither the jazz album I have listened to the most, I hesitated to include it or Iron Man in my list, but I have memories of being glued to the speaker and waiting anxiously for every note.
High five for Curtis, Betty Davis, Henderson, Art Blakey and all that post-bop. I need to listen to Electric Byrd, cause I love Ethiopian Knights.

It's great to see some people also love Brass Construction. Its a terrific album.

Not that NOW is the time but I'd love to do a poll one day of (my headcanon of) disco funk albums. Superficially funk but with an obvious disco/chant/12"-friendly kick. Imo there's two strands - America (Brass Construction, Slave, Brick, late 70s War, Con Funk Shun, BT Express, Mass Production, Crown Heights Affair) and then there is its descendant, early Britfunk my beloved (Hi-Tension, Light of the World, Atmosfear, Incognito, Freeez, Beggar & Co., Linx, Beggar & Co). What unites them is that they all made at least one knockout album (if not in some cases more).

You should do it. Disco is way more popular on ILM than jazz and funk

If anyone reading hasn't heard the Sweat Band and Mutiny albums then they should as its the best of the pfunk spin offs. I'm sad I cut the Quazar album off my list too as thats top notch pfunk.
