Stereolab for me too. I still remember how underrated that one was when it came out. It's one of their best.

I came to that one late after 2 decades of thinking Dots & Loops was the be-all, but now I could listen to "Baby Lulu" for 24 hrs straight. xp!

I’d probably rank it third after Peng and D&L, wont hold it against anyone who think it’s their best one.

If it weren’t for the stupid “Room Service” skit, disc one of that Zappa is probably the best example of what I like about him. Second disc gets pretty wanky though.

I can’t overstate how influential that Firesign was on young me. I can still quote most of it verbatim, but you don’t want to hear that.

Don't Crush That Dwarf is the ringer...the only comedy record I've seen on any of these lists. But it's amazing.

Soft Machine 2 is possibly the best thing evah, so that. : )

quite a few favourites here, but i went with fear of music. i feel like it's somehow underrated in their discography. such wonderful pocket symphonies

so many albums I love here, but ended up going for my third favourite soft machine LP

Number of albums heard: 20, not counting the Smiths which songs I know, but not in this package

Favourite: Eno over On the Beach

Least-favourite: All Things Must Pass, though the Ween album was middling enough to discourage further exploration

Nicest surprise: Morton Feldman or Soft Machine

Unheard, but most want to hear: Bad Brains

I'm going to go through every top-50 poll and pull one album that I haven't heard but which sounds interesting or is getting a lot of enthusiasm in the posts into a (Tidal) playlist. That'll keep me busy for a while, then maybe I'll start over.

I'm sure it doesn't really top 'Fear of Music' and half a dozen others here, for me, but had to go with Idjah Hadidjah because that album was a mind-blower to young me.

Voted Absinthe because it's the one where it sounds like Joey Baron is dragging and scraping a metal chain instead of playing kit (nevermind all the other zany inspired ish going on on it)

In a more just universe, jaipongan would be the big dance craze sweeping every nation and causing world peace through big time sensuality. Just from my surface level reading (eg wikipedia) the style has an amazing story, with one guy developing it because Sukarno banned decadent Western music in 1961, and it becoming too popular to ban when the Indonesian govt realized it included sexytimes themes and was popular with the lower classes.

I'm mulling a songs poll, stuff that makes me absolutely melt down and/or stop what I'm doing to sing along in my horrible croak, but which can't quite lift an album to top 50 status.
