Tbh, I've heard fewer than half of these. The rest I'm not sure I'd ever think to listen to without some prompting like this. Oddly, I was wondering if anyone would list something really "outsider," I think Jandek fits that bill.

if someone hasn’t heard the Fibbers, all you have to do is play “Dragon Lady” and they’re sort of stunned into silence— i remember the first time i heard that track was on a mixtape that an ilxor of old ( username “eppy” ) made for me when i was entering 9th grade and he was my camp counselor. the tape totally changed my life, but that song in particular just blows me away, every time. i still have the tape— i should poll it. it’s good!

The Geraldine Fibbers are a band I've known the name of for 20+ years but never listened to. This album is a monster! It's almost 8am, but it's making me want a beer.

Edinburgh Virgin Megastore. It had this "European" section that always seemed ultra mysterious to me. In hindsight it was a lot of Rock In Opposition, Kraut and stuff like Henri Texier but it also had all the Zoviet France early releases and I was obsessed by them even though I literally knew nothing about them. But, I couldn't afford them until finally Mohnomishe was in the sale and I got it ultra cheap and had a damascene moment when I got it home.

This is my favourite list so far, but it's fairly easily Acnalbasac Noom for me.

I feel like the songs on the pope one go on for too long - could've benefited from stopping when they ran out of words (à la Pink Flag) rather than repeating ad nauseum, though that was probably the point of the whole exercise.

Admittedly my favourite Blinko thing apart from Cacophony is the Magits 7" - only one song over one minute - I think he's really good at condensing things into a short duration for maximum impact.

Black Flag - Damaged, This Heat - Deceit, Current 93 - In Menstrual Night, Coil - Love's Secret Domain, Gas - Koenigsforst, Psychic TV - Dreams Less Sweet are all amazing albums. I would pick different Current 93 and Coil albums, but I think this is a good list

Zoviet*France has a very enigmatic catalog, along with The Hafler Trio. Apparently both of them originated in a place called Newcastle on Tyne

there are others I love on here too, like Hüsker Dü, Pharaoh Sanders, Brian Eno

Automating Vol. 1 is a good compilation of the early stuff.

Salt Marie Celeste was released much later, in 2003, but it has become my favorite NWW album, an ambient recording of a creaking wooden ship about to sink

not my favorite album here but voting PTV because i've known our interests overlap but i couldn't define where or how and PTV nails it. Also because it's the only one with a bonus disc of Tibetan thigh bone music. My second fave album of theirs, too (after Allegory & Self).

The Mekons deserved better. That's a pretty good album, but it probably didn't help that the Mekons made at least a couple of greater albums that were a cut above this one.
