I recently got a pristine copy finally, after many years casually looking for one, so I'm thrilled! It sounds so good, especially since the mp3s I've had were ripped from a copy that is easily in much worse shape.

The Clientele get my vote. I need to hear more of these.

I considered hyperlinks to songs for each but realized I didn't have that kind of time...

Yes swirlies obv! I often say that album is the best of the 90s, usually as hyperbole for the sake of marketing to friends and strangers, but there are many times I believe it in my heart

This is another where a gave up counting the overlap. What a great list! Difficult to not reactionary vote for Space Needle too but went with Seefeel - much like Broadcast, the further away we’ve gotten from when these were new underlines just how ahead of its time they are. Even if that is a lazy phrase to describe albums like these.

I think 20 years ago me would have chosen one of: Swirlies, Black Tambourine, The Ropers, The Cat's Miaow (though strictly speaking that's a quite recent comp) plus maybe the Moles and Cannanes LPs. Today me may require some re-listening and a long contemplative walk to solve this riddle lol.

To that point! Have you heard that Hydroplane s/t at any point in those last 20 years? Recently reissued as well

I have a knack for repeatedly failing to listen to more than an occasional Hydroplane track. A ludicrous state of affairs for a Cat's Miaow enthusiast, I know! I see it is indeed very available so no more excuses...

I love Bowery Electric - I first heard them via that first 2x7" and then the first self-titled album on Kranky. I got to see them around then - Lawrence had one of the most immense guitar sounds going (I think some of that first album was recorded in an aircraft hangar?)

Would love to be able to catch them live... I got to see Seefeel a couple of years ago for instance.

Heads up both the self-titled and the tracks from that Drop EP (2x7") are being reissued as a 2xLP and it's coming out in one week!
