there are things I love that aren't well-represented here because there isn't an album-length thing that would kick something else off this list (not that the list is perfect ...)

mid 90s you say?

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 19:28 (one year ago)

So much greatness here but it's Michael Mayer Fabric 13 for me. My most beloved mix by anyone. Played it to death at the time

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 19:29 (one year ago)

Ok this time I'm voting for Remain In Light

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 19:29 (one year ago)

Went with Talking Book amongst lots of other great choices

that's not my post, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 19:42 (one year ago)

Nice list, voting for Spoon just over Fever Ray

Bee OK, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 19:55 (one year ago)

first instinct is bytes but there’s a strong case for maxinquaye and endtroducing

chiastic slide, icbyd and rdj also at top of heap but autechre and aphex have lots of other equally good stuff (black dog et al not so much)

the late great, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 20:11 (one year ago)

Yeah those albums were my intro to rdj & Autechre, I made no attempt to be impartial here.

The Orb!

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 20:33 (one year ago)

Fever Ray is my favorite mid 90’s album

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 20:40 (one year ago)

It's not false advertising, it's smart marketing

official representative of Roku's Basketshit in at least one alternate u (lukas), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 20:46 (one year ago)

gotta go with Outhere Brothers

nashwan, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 20:48 (one year ago)

aerial!

No Glenn Miller, no credibility.

Vast Halo, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 21:06 (one year ago)

Anyhoo voting Amon Tobin as I was mad obsessed about that one for a full year (and Bonobo’s dial m for monkey) when it came out. I think the first time I heard “slowly” I played it 10 times in a row.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 21:24 (one year ago)

yeah i know its a cliche, but for me it was a toss up between KLF and tBD.
and as much as i love the KLF it has to be tBD for me.

Slowly is the track on it I've been obsessed with for the last eight years yeah.

didja know Four Ton Mantis has been removed from the album? Sample clearance iirc

for me mid 90s electronic music will always be about

Tricky - Maxinquaye most of all, but also

Portishead - Dummy
Oval - 94 Discont
Bjork - Debut, Post, Homogenic
Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die
Autechre - Tri Repetae
A Guy Called Gerald - Black Secret Technology
Aphex Twin - I Care Because You Do, Richard D. James Album
Underworld - Second toughest in the Infants
The Prodigy - Music For the Jilted Generation
Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children
Pole - CD 1

I'm sure there are others

Dan S, Thursday, 24 August 2023 01:05 (one year ago)

there are:

leftfield - leftism
global - communication - 76:14
plaid - not for threes
fluke - oto
spooky - found sound
two lone swordsmen - the fifth mission

the last three are the most forgotten (or least talked about) and amongst my absolute favourites.

It’s been years since I last heard Amon Tobin tbh but that sucks. That song is essential to this album.

In a similar fashion “easy muffin” is my favorite song off his debut and it’s also missing from streaming (and I suppose any reissues)

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 24 August 2023 07:01 (one year ago)

fifth mission is one of my favorite albums of all time, it's basically "what if sabres' 'haunted dancehall' but make it library music for 70s crime drama"

the late great, Thursday, 24 August 2023 20:56 (one year ago)

yes exactly! but it also feels completely sui generis - unlike, say, 'theme' off haunted dancehall.

crutch of england (ledge), Thursday, 24 August 2023 21:22 (one year ago)

oh i know what you mean, for every “wtf is this weird genius noise” moment like “chapel st market 9 am” there’s something depressingly prosaic like “tow truck”

the late great, Friday, 25 August 2023 04:01 (one year ago)

I just posted a list with Luomo on it, so that.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Saturday, 26 August 2023 00:01 (one year ago)

I'm sorry I responded to this troll thread

Dan S, Saturday, 26 August 2023 00:13 (one year ago)

Lol I didn't read other people's threads before I posted, so my top 50 wouldn't be influenced.

So I assumed all the highly specific thread titles were people poking fun at how their lists were weighted toward something specific. So I did that.

It actually would have been more fun to go all-in on this concept, so we both have regrets.

official representative of Roku's Basketshit in at least one alternate u (lukas), Saturday, 26 August 2023 04:10 (one year ago)

Number of albums heard: 20

Favourite: Hejira over 154

Least-favourite: Dizzee Rascal, though I like a couple of songs

Nicest surprise: Can't Buy a Thrill

Unheard, but most want to hear: Ghostface Killah?

Halfway there but for you, Saturday, 26 August 2023 19:32 (one year ago)

also where is your poll tlg??

― official representative of Roku's Basketshit in at least one alternate u (lukas)

if people are seriously catching feelings about other people’s polls then now you can see why i’m not posting one lol

the late great, Saturday, 26 August 2023 19:44 (one year ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Sunday, 27 August 2023 00:01 (one year ago)

only 14 w/no votes

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Sunday, 27 August 2023 00:57 (one year ago)

Now this is a list. Sad I missed the voting window
