Not sure these are my 50 favourite LPs, but they are definitely the 50 I thought of in the last half an hour.

^^ gets it

voted Rock Bottom

is that Atari Teenage Riot actually better than Burn Berlin Burn? I have never heard it!

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 21:38 (one year ago)

It's 27 minutes of noise in a single track, they were supporting NIN and were just making the most unbearable sounds possible to punish the NIN audience, who were booing and throwing things at them, it is amazing.

We Love Life

The best Pulp album and I couldve easily included it on my own list

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 21:52 (one year ago)

Love

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 21:52 (one year ago)

Robert Wyatt, the Albion Band, with you all the way.

Monthly Python (Tom D.), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 21:53 (one year ago)

H.P, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 22:03 (one year ago)

I love that Miss Kitten album!!

I voted for Broadcast x Focus Group tho, that record is amazing

Snoopy is a cat, who lives in a cage (flamboyant goon tie included), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 22:23 (one year ago)

Gah this is a hard one.

All of these I like a lot:

Bjork - Vespertine
Broadcast - Work & Non-Work
Broadcast & The Focus Group - Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age
Curtis Mayfield - Curtis
Daphne & Celeste - Daphne & Celeste Save the World
Gang of Four - Entertainment!
Miles Davis - In A Silent Way
Moondog - Moondog
Mr Twin Sister - Mr Twin Sister
Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom
Saint Etienne - So Tough
Shura - Nothing's Real
Squarepusher - Go Plastic!
Stereolab - Dots & Loops
The Yummy Fur - Night Club

Tempted to vote Yummy Fur because where else will I get the chance to vote for them

Dots & Loops

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 23:46 (one year ago)

I love that Miss Kitten album!!

Yeah, it may be my most listened here, funny that they had her make an "electroclash" mix and she gave them this weird Berlin techno mix instead, but they just called it "Electroclash" anyway.

I voted for Broadcast x Focus Group tho, that record is amazing

Think lots of these are "more people should hear this!" and this is a good example.

the world is your octopus (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 24 August 2023 08:39 (one year ago)

really nice to see a curtis album on here too. I had the same one on my jazz & funk list

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Thursday, 24 August 2023 08:46 (one year ago)

I need more soul albums in my collection, hopefully this will be rectified as I get through the 70s (am currently listening to 1957)

the world is your octopus (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 24 August 2023 08:50 (one year ago)

1957 is approaching peak jazz years for me

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Thursday, 24 August 2023 09:15 (one year ago)

yeah 59 has a reputation as being the peak year for jazz LPs, but it's already getting there in 57. I've always been more into either 20s jazz or late 60s fusion, so it's been quite an education

the world is your octopus (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 24 August 2023 09:18 (one year ago)

my knowledge of pre 56 jazz is practically zero, rather shamefully

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Thursday, 24 August 2023 09:22 (one year ago)

Well there's this website where you can listen to mixes for every year of recorded sound, it's up to 1945 so far, lots of jazz from 1917 onwards. https://centuriesofsound.com/

the world is your octopus (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 24 August 2023 09:25 (one year ago)

Sorry, I really can't help myself

the world is your octopus (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 24 August 2023 09:26 (one year ago)

interesting

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Thursday, 24 August 2023 09:30 (one year ago)

First thought before clicking was "will finally see the correct Broadcast option(s)" lol. Many other agreeable things too, but Witch Cults will be hard to resist.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Thursday, 24 August 2023 09:47 (one year ago)

This has to be Broadcast - Work & Non-Work which is probably my favourite album of all time if I was including compilations.

These are all masterpieces:

Belle & Sebastian - Tigermilk
Bjork - Vespertine
Charli XCX - True Romance
Curtis Mayfield - Curtis
David Bowie - Low
Global Communication - 76:14
Miles Davis - In A Silent Way
Nick Drake - Bryter Layter
Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom
Saint Etienne - So Tough
Shura - Nothing's Real (still disappointed this didn't make our 2010s list)
Stereolab - Dots & Loops
Underworld - Everything Everything

kitchen person, Thursday, 24 August 2023 14:03 (one year ago)

Agree that Shura album is one of the tightest pop albums of the decade.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 24 August 2023 14:14 (one year ago)

The Space Tapes is just the perfect closer, I'm only finding out now that it's a digital-only bonus track?!

Anxiously awaiting Halfway there but for you's judgement.

the world is your octopus (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 27 August 2023 09:39 (one year ago)

yeah this for me is Third, one of those albums where i genuinely cannot believe/work out how they pulled it off

imago, Sunday, 27 August 2023 09:44 (one year ago)

with apologies to the banger-stuffed Max Tundra reboot of Daphne & Celeste, which I feel a bit bad for overlooking in favour of Fusion Prog Behemoth. They'd understand I'm sure. Shoutout True Romance, Blue, Forever Changes, bunch of others idk

imago, Sunday, 27 August 2023 09:52 (one year ago)

Number of albums heard: 21

Favourite: Forever Changes over Third and Nick Drake

Least-favourite: Pulp, which is still quite good

Nicest surprise: Julia Holter or Kevin Ayers

Unheard, but most want to hear: Gong

Halfway there but for you, Sunday, 27 August 2023 23:47 (one year ago)

Everything Everything is by my watch the fourth best live album of the ever.

Nice showing from the O fans!

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Monday, 28 August 2023 00:05 (one year ago)

All those zero-votes albums are also amazing

Snoopy is a cat, who lives in a cage (flamboyant goon tie included), Monday, 28 August 2023 00:27 (one year ago)

damn zero votes for rock bottom

is he disgruntled adrian? (voodoo chili), Monday, 28 August 2023 00:43 (one year ago)
