It's Only Safe at the Party When It's Pretty Much Already Over: 50 eatandoph Favorites

50 favorite albums presented in roughly the order I first heard them, following the one album per artist rule. A cool older brother and the Trouser Press Record Guide were formative influences in my middle school years (early '90s); I wonder if this list is weighted more toward that time in my life than other people's.

Such riches. :)

Maybe Corky’s Debt to His Father, cos it's awesome and I haven't noticed it in other lists!

Oooh, maybe 19 I love? These lists are all great, I wish I had time to listen to all the records I'm not or less familiar with, or which deserve more time than I have given them.

Siegbran, Friday, 25 August 2023 08:36 (one year ago)

I've been trying to vote for other records than my own picks. Here it would be Pink Flag, Close to the Edge, Roxy Music, Cure and Siouxsie...

Unsolvable dilemma between Roxy Music and Broadcast. Have to stew on this…

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Number of albums heard: 22

Favourite: Station to Station though there's about five other plausible candidates

Least-favourite: Peter Gabriel

Nicest surprise: very happy to see Free Hand, and the Residents

Unheard, but most want to hear: Thomas Dolby, Mayo Thompson

Love this autobiographical organization!

Would love to be able to reconstruct my own musical discoveries this way.

Halfway there but for you, Monday, 28 August 2023 21:13 (one year ago)

Nice to see such a spread of votes in all these polls, not too many runaway winners

look i'm not sally fucking rooney (Matt #2), Tuesday, 29 August 2023 00:58 (one year ago)

*looks at all the results* some of them anyway

Nice to see so many votes! As it happens, the winner has the distinction of being the only album I've played at least once every year since I started logging my listening in 2012 (which is the somewhat arbitrary reason I chose it over either of the other two "main" Broadcast albums). I played it again after the results came in, effectively continuing the trend.
