Eh..I started jotting down a list. Figured one album per artist. It's not perfect, but I like riffy hard rock a bit more than most around here. On artists with big discographies, I tried to pick one that I listened to a bit more obsessively.

Singles Going Steady in this one, a perfect comp but so is Substance.

Bee OK, Friday, 25 August 2023 02:16 (one year ago)

The likes of Music has the Right to Children, Substance, Zuma and You’re Living All Over Me may legit be in my top 50 lifetime most-played or something, but you're prompted me to revisit Jaco Pastorius for the first time in eons and he's sounding particularly spiffy today. So that!

tough call but went w/Entertainment

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Friday, 25 August 2023 02:39 (one year ago)

You did that, and thank dog I just now chose Maggot Brain on Western Bacon's poll, so---Entroducing, a big gateway in the warehouse for me.

A Love Supreme

I was tempted, and did vote for The Jesus Lizard. Black Sabbathian, nervous, lunatic, groovy rock.
Did you consider including any Stranglers album ?

Nabozo, Friday, 25 August 2023 06:19 (one year ago)

I heard the Stranglers way later. I like some of their stuff, but I would not say I know any particular record really well. JJ Brunel has an awesome bass sound, that is really top notch. I love that bass sound in how it opens up the song "Peaches".

I'd probably would go for a Fall album before them in a top list, but part of the thing with the Fall is - which one... I guess if I went with one, probably Hex Enduction Hour or The Wonderful and Frightening World of the Fall.

Wow, at least 27 faves of mine. Still surprised to see so much Tortoise, nice to see something other than "Monster Movie" as the Can pick, especially the cool as hell "Ege Bamyasi."

Tangerine Dream

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 25 August 2023 23:31 (one year ago)

Number of albums heard: 36

Favourite: Phaedra over Floyd and Sabbath

Least-favourite: Headhunters (I love the Mwandishi band, but the sound on this puts me off)

Nicest surprise: Bridge of Sighs

Unheard, but most want to hear: Isley Brothers, Mountain

(...I've heard most of the songs on Go For Your Guns on compilations.)

Motorhead- No Sleep til Hammersmith
Black Sabbath- Vol. 4

I got into both of these in high school. There used to be a truck stop that was behind where I went to school and they had a pretty extensive amount of cassettes that were sometimes pretty cheap. Most of them were country or sometimes comedy...you would see lots of Red Sovine, Jerry Clower or Slim Whitman. However they would also have some greatest hits, usually import knockoffs and these included cheap UK import cassettes of Sabbath and Motorhead.

I got my copy of No Remorse and No Sleep til Hammersmith at this truck stop along with Sabbath's Vol. 4 and later on Master of Reality. I also got a cassette of TRex's Electric Warrior there. I had No Prole from Rock and Roll from Columbia house, but Vol 4 was the first Sabbath studio album I had (mind you on cassette).

DJ Shadow- Endtroducing

I first heard this one on a promo in a record store in a scene not unlike the album cover.

Back in those days I lived in Indianapolis and my regular thing on Friday payday or Saturday was going down on Broad Ripple Ave. to get a burrito 'as big as your head' then going to Missing Link Records.

I found all sorts of stuff in that place used on CD and LP. In one of the days of searching the bins there I overheard something in the store later to find "Building Steam with a Grain of Salt" and I had to ask what music was. CD/LP was not out for a couple of weeks, but I got it there in a later visit.
