Wow, I haven't seen the name Bel Canto in ages.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 25 August 2023 03:34 (two years ago)

Finally some good stuff

But his face would not turn into hot Kirby (Evan), Friday, 25 August 2023 04:01 (two years ago)

Let me know what the good stuff is! Buying 52 CD's in one day is a good way to ensure that most of them never get the attention they deserve.

Current 93, was literally just reading about that album earlier today in the England's Hidden Reverse book

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Friday, 25 August 2023 04:10 (two years ago)

Other lists I considered posting:

An actual top 50 albums list from 2003 (which won't have changed much if I compiled it now)

50 UK import 7-inches I bought at Venus Records in NYC between 1982 - 1986 (half of which would be XTC and Squeeze)

A favorite songs list from my senior year in high school 1980. Most of it typical for an 18-year-old rock dork, some of it kinda embarrassing. Number 1 at the time was "Tell Me to My Face," a 7 minute rocked-out obscure Hollies cover from the album Twin Sons of Different Mothers by Dan Fogelberg & Tim Weissberg (two artists who otherwise are complete bores).

That is quite a haul on one day but have a feeling you have had bigger hauls. I think the most I have ever bought might be 15 at Amoeba San Francisco or Berkeley. Never been to a Record Fair myself.

Bee OK, Friday, 25 August 2023 04:42 (two years ago)

No, that was the single biggest.

But yeah, I did enough big splurges at Amoeba L.A. that it earned me 3 tote bags over the years.

Barbara Manning!

that's not my post, Friday, 25 August 2023 04:55 (two years ago)

'The Sadness of Things" is in my top 10 of all time, so that.

atonar, Friday, 25 August 2023 21:15 (two years ago)

I voted for the Superdrag - great record! One of my good friends is buds/former HS classmate with the Smoking Popes band of brothers, and they have mentioned several times about Jerry Finn playing them some of 'Head Trip in Every Key' demos while they were working on 'Destination:Failure' and they were all just blown away at how good the songs/songwriting were!

That Sonora Pine is pretty great - there's a reissue vinyl that came out this past year.

Oh well I just really love 18th Dye, The 3Ds, Fly Ashtray, The Spinanes, Barbara Manning, Superdrag... just a lot of awesome stuff in that haul overall

Mark Lanegan - The Winding Sheet (1990, Sub Pop Records)

The Joyride OST looks good! Never heard of the film, but anything which has Tobey Maguire and Adam West must be worth watching surely.

Dan Worsley, Friday, 25 August 2023 22:27 (two years ago)

'The Sadness of Things" is in my top 10 of all time, so that.

I'm voting for that myself. The waves of drone over the last 10 minutes of "The Grave and Beautiful Name of Sadness" is such perfect dark ambient to float away on.

Hideous Lump, Friday, 25 August 2023 22:33 (two years ago)

Had to go with Reich 'Early Works' as the most life-changing for me personally. But Bel Canto are very overlooked...

Soundslike, Friday, 25 August 2023 23:28 (two years ago)

if Fly Ashtray appears in a poll, then I will be voting for Fly Ashtray. you can set your watch by this.

J Edgar Noothgrush (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Saturday, 26 August 2023 01:06 (two years ago)

For fun I'll restrict myself to things I'm pretty sure I picked up that same year lol:

Damon & Naomi, The Spinanes, The 3Ds, Steve Reich, Barbara Manning, Low (well, Curtain, at least)

I get few opportunities to select The 3Ds in web forms, so that's tempting...

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Saturday, 26 August 2023 01:57 (two years ago)

Some neat stuff, props for "Hellzapoppin."

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Haha John Power has been lurking and got his mates to vote!

Critique of the Goth Programme (Neil S), Thursday, 31 August 2023 08:07 (two years ago)

ILM has always had its Britpop defenders (Select Magazine readers) but I didn't know anyone liked Cast round here.

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Thursday, 31 August 2023 08:48 (two years ago)

Lets blame Dog Latin.

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Thursday, 31 August 2023 08:48 (two years ago)

Don't look at me, that's truly bizarre

Stomp Jomperson (dog latin), Thursday, 31 August 2023 08:53 (two years ago)

Somehow ILXors preferring Cast to Current 93 gives me a warm feeling inside

Monthly Python (Tom D.), Thursday, 31 August 2023 08:56 (two years ago)

I voted for Mark Lanegan

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Thursday, 31 August 2023 09:05 (two years ago)

All the poll winners are to be polled too. Going to be a few surprised folk haha
