Siegbrans Top 50

Fuck it, I'll do one too. This whole top 50 thing is great, I'm discovering a ton of new stuff from so many people here.

Took my top 100 and removed all of the extreme metal - nobody will vote for it and it triggers too many people. Also cut some of the overly familiar stuff like Nevermind, Dummy, Doggystyle, Discovery, Vespertine and To Pimp A Butterfly. Some compilations with material not released on albums.

If I'd have to name one that I think everyone should hear, it's the Hoedh album.

Siegbran, Friday, 25 August 2023 07:58 (one year ago)

Great list!

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Friday, 25 August 2023 08:04 (one year ago)

Really very good list. Had to flip a few coins but went for Alice In Chains which is an album I've been really getting back into lately

Stomp Jomperson (dog latin), Friday, 25 August 2023 09:01 (one year ago)

Oh no I missed the Dubblestandart album. I love that record

NTS: get better at looking

Stomp Jomperson (dog latin), Friday, 25 August 2023 09:08 (one year ago)

Yes I noticed AiC on your list as well - I think that's our only overlap!

Siegbran, Friday, 25 August 2023 09:11 (one year ago)

ok but I wanna see your metal list

J Edgar Noothgrush (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Friday, 25 August 2023 11:01 (one year ago)

AiC would be in my alltime list if I had done one instead of genre polls. Siegbran you need to do a metal list. So do you smithy.

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Friday, 25 August 2023 11:15 (one year ago)

xxp yeah but you've got Scott, Prodigy and Autechre on there - different albums, but similar sentiment. I would have voted for Psalm 69 quite happily too

Stomp Jomperson (dog latin), Friday, 25 August 2023 11:17 (one year ago)

I don't really want to do a metal list or talk about extreme metal on ILX to be honest. I think I posted my favorites a couple years ago, they haven't really changed much.

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Monday, 28 August 2023 18:48 (one year ago)

List! Was going to go AIC but as a few have already mentioned it, will go Kruder & Dorfmeister.

(picnic, lightning) very very frightening (Chinaski), Monday, 28 August 2023 18:48 (one year ago)

I missed Burial! Glad Moodles can a) read and ii) has such immaculate taste.

Shit, I had Sisters Of Mercy - First And Last And Always in my draft but it got dropped somehow. Mr. Eldritch will have to forgive me…

Siegbran, Monday, 28 August 2023 19:10 (one year ago)

Gonna vote for Metal Heart, but glad to see Carbon Based Lifeforms on there.

My homebuilt version of Psalm 69, which includes the extended 12"/CD single versions of "N.W.O.," "Just One Fix," and "Jesus Built My Hotrod," is much better than the album as released.

read-only (unperson), Monday, 28 August 2023 19:31 (one year ago)

biosphere : in 94 i went deep into the ambient/techno world.
for 12 months i hardly bought anything that had beats.
it was my year of FAX obsession.
and that Biosphere cd (along with Scanner/Spore), became massively part of my listening world.

mark e, Monday, 28 August 2023 20:05 (one year ago)

Hmm I don’t think I’ve ever heard those Ministry 12” versions!

Carbon Based Lifeforms, yeah they do go straight for the saliva glands with that record but I keep coming back to it for over 15 years now, you’d think the novelty of those ultra-wide synth pads wears off at some point but not for me.

Siegbran, Monday, 28 August 2023 22:09 (one year ago)

xp I don't know Patashnik, listening to it now.

I've always been partial to Microgravity and Substrata.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Monday, 28 August 2023 22:13 (one year ago)

Patashnik is pretty much exactly midway between those.

Siegbran, Monday, 28 August 2023 22:21 (one year ago)

Yes, I can definitely hear that. Heavy Microgravity vibes in "Decryption."

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Monday, 28 August 2023 22:25 (one year ago)

I had a tough time choosing between Violator, Dirt, and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, but chose Violator in the end as I just listen to it more often after all this time. Fun list, though. A lot of these bands are on my own, but with different albums.

beard papa, Monday, 28 August 2023 23:18 (one year ago)

Voted for The Cardigans. Such a wonderful band. Scott 4, Titanic Rising, Disco Romance, Where You Go I Go Too and Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix are all favourites too. Good list.

kitchen person, Tuesday, 29 August 2023 02:14 (one year ago)

I voted for Savoir Faire, which came out at the peak of my Chic obsession. Although the Dmitri from Paris remixes are just okay (and the packaging is cheap, with discs falling off the hubs), the set compiles so many great tracks from across their production work, including shockingly great unreleased items for other artists. Apart from the Johnny Mathis album nothing else has come out since then, but I had always hoped the Vol. 1 meant there was more to come.

eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Tuesday, 29 August 2023 02:55 (one year ago)

i went for the cardigans - such a wonderful album. i don't love it all the way through but this album has "carnival" and "daddy's car" so i don't need to

tremolo, Tuesday, 29 August 2023 06:58 (one year ago)

Yeah it feels like cheating to include that Chic compilation but I realised the list had no disco at all and that felt wrong give how much it’s part of my life.

Siegbran, Tuesday, 29 August 2023 08:03 (one year ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Saturday, 2 September 2023 00:01 (one year ago)

wanted to vote for Current 93 - Sleep Has His House, but then saw Burial - Untrue, one of my favorite records of all time, and I have to vote for that

Dan S, Saturday, 2 September 2023 00:13 (one year ago)

Lindstrom though I almost gave it to Da Drought 3

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Saturday, 2 September 2023 11:06 (one year ago)

Number of albums heard: 5

Favourite: Scott 4

Least-favourite: No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith, since the studio records were already raw enough; though I do like "Iron Horse" here

Nicest surprise: Burial

Unheard, but most want to hear: Accept or the Cardigans

Halfway there but for you, Saturday, 2 September 2023 13:21 (one year ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.
