What it says in the title. Some of these people are or have been members of bands or projects that do have a mention (maybe even a thread in some cases) though... the only other criteria is that these are all recordings I love unconditionally. List skews fairly avant/out/abstract/improv/noise/whatever as that's been my regular diet for decades.

All of these polls have been a lot of fun to go through!

I have never heard of a single one of these. I wouldn't mind hearing them all

Stomp Jomperson (dog latin), Friday, 25 August 2023 12:56 (one year ago)

yeah, think this is the first list where not a single one rings a bell. anything with a beat and a melody to start me off?

tremolo, Friday, 25 August 2023 12:57 (one year ago)

getting Deep Bobbins vibes lol

imago, Friday, 25 August 2023 12:59 (one year ago)

Interesting list, I have no idea about any of it, maybe we have reached our NWW list apex, this could be a lotta fun to go through.

MaresNest, Friday, 25 August 2023 13:00 (one year ago)

I’m zero for fifty on this list too. Looking forward to this one!

Some further info/context:

Ákos Rózmann - Hungarian-Swedish electroacoustic composer, Stephen O'Malley has been rereleasing his work on Ideologic Organ/Editions Mego.
AS11 - Greek artist, recorded a few things for Antifrost, since seems to have disappeared.
Astor - Mark Harwood who runs the Penultimate Press label.
Banetoriko - Japanese artist, formerly based in LA, now in Osaka, releases on Neurec and Banned Production among others.
The Bricoleur - Michael Lawrence who does bespoke vinyl cutting as Bladud Flies!, associate and sometime sound engineer of Current 93.
Cas de Marez - Dutch actress who occasionally dabbled in sound.
Club Skull - collaborative project of Akifumi Nakajima (Aube), Fumio Kosakai (Incapacitants/CCCC), Hiroshi Hasegawa (CCCC/Astro)
Dislocation - long-running Japanese free-jazz/noise group, this CD is on the venerable PSF label.
Dusa - Swedish artist Charlotta Naas, sort of musique concrete with occasional hip hop beats and field recordings, seems to be retired
.es - improv duo from Osaka, resident at the Nomart gallery space. Sax player Takayuki Hashimoto died a few years back. They've collaborated with basically everyone in Japan.
Ferial Confine - early project of Andrew Chalk.
Fis - sort of post-techno project from New Zealand but based in Berlin, the disc in the poll is a collaboration with Maori artist Rob Thorne.
Fumio Kosakai - well known as a member of Incapacitants, C.C.C.C. and formerly Hijokaidan.
Guds Soner - aka The Sons of God, Leif Elggren and Kent Tankred, veteran Swedish performance and multimedia artists.
Hajsch - Hans-Jurgen Schunk, ran the Quiet Artworks label, member of PFN (whose 'Akasa/Fur Cleo' LP is included on this disc) and Kontakta.
Hands To - Jeph Jerman's alias for early work.
Human Greed - Michael Begg (Fovea Hex, etc) and Deryk Thomas (known for his cover art for Swans, etc) - this album has guest appearances by Clodagh Simonds and David Tibet, amongst others

Joseph Lewis & David Steans - Yorkshire filmmaker weirdos with ties to the New Blockaders/Bladder Flask/Metgumbnerbone axis.
Jun Konagaya - best known for his long-running industrial noise project Grim, formerly of White Hospital.
Kengo Iuchi - Japanese noise-folk semi-legend, retired since the late 90's.
Katahtonios - anonymous record that may or may not be the work of Uli Rehberg and Asmus Tietchens, very much in the vein of Werkbund.
Lilith - Scott Gibbons of Chicago, did three albums for Sub Rosa in the 90's.
Lise-Lotte Norelius - Swedish electroacoustic composer, currently director of Fylkingen in Stockholm.
Marsfield - Andrew Chalk, Vikki Jackman, Robin Barnes and Brendan Walls
Massimo Ricci - well-known Italian music writer, this is his only album despite musical activities going back to the 80's.
Metamorphosis - North English postpunk/experimental group, this was their only LP, released first by Flowmotion and then reissued by Third Mind. I think they had vague ties to people like Hula and MFH/Pump.
Michael Moser - Austrian composer and cellist, member of Polweschel, ex-member of Zeitkratzer.
Mne-mic - post-CCCC group of Mayuko Hino with Ranko Onishi.
Noizeclot - one of many anonymous solo projects by John Zewizz of Sleep Chamber.

SEC_ - Italian electroacoustic/noise artist Mimmo Napolitano, has collaborated with a lot of people, his solo work is less known.
Soldier Garage - solo guitar/voice venture of manga artist Migiwa Shimizu, this CD is again on PSF, he's not so well known outside of Japan but did play at the Tusk Festival about a decade ago.
Steeple of Fyre - one of Dusty Lee's many mutations of Mauve Sideshow.
Takumi Akaishi - Japanese hurdy-gurdy player, frequent live collaborator with Keiji Haino amongst others.

Have heard two of these, voted Dislocation over Tetsuo Furudate.

Reiko A. - ex-wife of Masami Akita, ex-member of Merzbow - Akita has been systematically erasing her contributions from reissues in recent years.

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Friday, 25 August 2023 14:12 (one year ago)

ok this Mne-mic record rules

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Friday, 25 August 2023 14:16 (one year ago)

More people should know about that Mne-mic record! There's also DFH-M3 who haven't released a record but there is video evidence out there - it's Hino and Onishi with Junko from Hijokaidan, just total screaming beauty.

atonar, Friday, 25 August 2023 14:26 (one year ago)

Should have just embedded this!

Colonel Poo, Friday, 25 August 2023 14:30 (one year ago)

Ulkomaalaiset is the only one I’ve heard from this list. Interesting looking list. Thanks for the brief blurb explaining what they are.

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Friday, 25 August 2023 18:54 (one year ago)

I sold my Vegetarian Bavarian record a long time ago alas, twas a thing of beauty but poverty was looming at the time, liquidated a lot of records that I now regret.

atonar, Friday, 25 August 2023 19:54 (one year ago)

Huh

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 25 August 2023 20:32 (one year ago)

Akita has been systematically erasing her contributions from reissues in recent years.

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Friday, 25 August 2023 23:18 (one year ago)

7 of these names were familiar to me to some extent, although reading through atonar's companion blurbs I recognise quite a few people mentioned.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Thursday, 7 September 2023 00:01 (one year ago)

what the hell, I definitely voted for Ulkomaalaiset here

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Thursday, 7 September 2023 00:37 (one year ago)

At least we know now that people aren't voting for records they haven't heard

I spent too long trying to write sensible SF (Matt #2), Thursday, 7 September 2023 01:39 (one year ago)

Happy to see a vote for Konagaya - great, idiosyncratic album. If you like that you should check Grim's "Message" - same sort of weirdly childlike vocals applied to a sort of vaguely creepy hippie folk template - and the sequel to Organ, Travel which is a little darker in tone, reminds a little of Menace Ruine or something like that.
