The world doesn't need this. Hell, the site doesn't need this. But here it is. I tried to keep it to stuff I've not seen elsewhere but inevitably...

the metal picks are surprising in here, they're an interesting subgroup. locally I'm required to be excited that c.o.c. is here. but I voted Yabby, that stuff's eternal

J Edgar Noothgrush (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Sunday, 27 August 2023 18:16 (two years ago)

I did consider just a metal list but saw sense in the end. *Blind* is mega. Can't argue with Vivian Jackson of course.

*Dropped* - the MindFunk album - is the one I feel most protective and evangelical about. I don't really know anyone else who was or is into it. The whole mythology of them going out into the woods for six weeks with Terry Date and taking industrial amounts of acid. Jason Everman. Reed St. Mark. It's colossal. I keep thinking I should send a pitch to 33 1/3.

Voted for the Tuma - great record, & I put it up there with his Souled American work.

BlackIronPrison, Sunday, 27 August 2023 19:45 (two years ago)

Voted for Scott Tuma. So happy to see it here, it was one of my favorite albums for a while too. Thanks for reminding me about it.

Voted for A Tribute to Jack Johnson

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Sunday, 27 August 2023 19:49 (two years ago)

Tindersticks - Tindersticks (first one, the red one)
Mark Lanegan - Whiskey for the Holy Ghost
The God Machine - Scenes from the Second Storey
Papa M - Live from the Shark Cage
Labradford - Mi Media Naranja
Miles Davis - Jack Johnson
Entombed - Clandestine
Corrosion of Conformity - Blind
Cluster - Sowiesoso
Al Green - Belle

but as hard as it was not voting for The God Machine (their other album is on my list) , I just had to vote for Corrupted.

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Monday, 28 August 2023 09:15 (two years ago)

Good to see all the love for Scott Tuma.

Can't argue with Corrupted. That record is like watching tectonic plates twist and uplift.

LIVE FROM A SHARK CAGE

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 28 August 2023 09:25 (two years ago)

I only know five of these (Tindersticks, Eno, Crosby, Dylan, Doors) but I like those five a lot. Ambient 4 is especially amazing - while there may be many more treasures to be found among the 45 unknown to me, I'll give it a vote anyway.

Lambchop - Nixon

I dont think Lambchop have appeared on any of these polls yet so I'm giving this a pick

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Monday, 28 August 2023 09:43 (two years ago)

Shirley Collins & Dolly Collins - Anthems in Eden
David Crosby - If Only I Could Remember My Name

that is an impossible choice right there, so the hired hand soundtrack as a compromise

no lime tangier, Monday, 28 August 2023 09:54 (two years ago)

That's a great album too. I actually cut an earlier Lambchop from my list Mike.

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Monday, 28 August 2023 09:54 (two years ago)

Anthems in Eden and Nixon both perfect for the transition into autumn IMO.

My brain says “Nixon,” my heart says “Halfway to a Threeway”

Because I am a bellend, I made this over a month long. I would still like you to overcome your polling fatigue and vote though.

Number of albums heard: 8

Favourite: Mark Lanegan, which I only heard after his death, and couldn't stop listening to, though I never thought Screaming Trees were that great

Least-favourite: The Doors, I think Strange Days is superior in every way

Nicest surprise: Zawinul

Unheard, but most want to hear: Cluster, Al Green, Anthems in Eden

Halfway there but for you, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 14:34 (one year ago)

The first Doors album is pretty much perfect to me. Strange Days is a close second, mind.

I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Tuesday, 3 October 2023 14:59 (one year ago)

If it should matter to anyone: that quote in the thread title is from Maupassant: his self-penned epitaph.
