Roxy/Eno but there are some fabulous choices here.

This was tough but went with the Clash because those songs (two of their best) were done specifically as singles while other favorites here had inferior single edits or were surpassed by versions elsewhere.

Oh this is another great poll I missed. Wouldn’t have known what to vote for tbh… some great pairings in here that make me go “yeah play that one!”… honestly not a single one in here I’d like to skip… do you have these on a spotify playlist?

Pink Floyd / Kate Bush is the only one that makes me raise my eyebrow. I love both songs but I don’t think that Kate Bush song would be an easy sell for casual PF fans. I’d probably pair it with something like idk Doors “riders on the storm” or Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “simple man” or something more obvious for classic rock fans.

You still have time to vote in the 80s and 90s editions which are up now. nate wools very helpfully made spotify playlists for 70s & 80s a few posts up. I used to keep my own versions but they got deleted along with my spotify a while back.

I fully concede that Floyd/Kate Bush doesn't work so well for the reason you cite. The only real connection is that David Gilmour discovered and fought for her early on. WH was the toughest song to pair w/ others I wanted to put on here. It wasn't until after I posted this that I finally thought of Bela Lugosi's Dead for their contrasting takes on goth subject matter.

I cast the vote for one of my personal favorites, Congos/Lee Scratch Perry. Two of his most spaced-out productions that I know.

You know, I don't think I ever really gave "Why Can't We Live Together" its due beyond it being "the early drum machine song," because I didn't like it as much as George McRae Herbie Hancock or something. Now I think I blew it and should have considered it more. The second half of it is amazing.

Although if I were to change things around I might still go with "Be Thankful.../Rock Your Baby."

xp I'm sure I heard it plenty of times before, but it really was the haunting way it was used in the Jonestown documentary that made a permanent mark in my memory
