I love the Rainy Day album, I wish it would get a rerelease. I'm not sure it's on any of the streaming services, but at least there's YouTube. Poll is not so much "best song" as "best cover version on this album."

(Kendra doing Neil, in this case)

I think my vote is Kendra doing Alex.

I love the DIY basement vibe of the album, it sounds like it was made for about ten bucks but they get by with it because the collective talent is so good.

I like all of these songs and musicians, and haven't heard the album, but I'm cringing a little imagining Michael Quercio of all people trying to sing Jimi Hendrix.

Halfway there but for you, Monday, 4 September 2023 15:39 (two years ago)

Well, I just listened to it and his singing was no worse than the guitar playing.

lol yeah the Hendrix one goes under "nice try" I guess, but I like the spirit.

This version of "Flying..." is one of my favorite recordings ever made by anyone, and IMO this album has some of the best songs Susanna Hoffs has ever sung. I actually like this version of "I'll Keep It With Mine" better than Nico's - I like how Susanna goes high on the line "...could save you any time" instead of going low like Nico does. Love love love this album so much. It took me years before I realized that regarding the Buffalo Springfield tracks, Rainy Day were actually probably channeling the live solo Neil Young versions of those songs rather than the BS recordings that came before.

Going with “I’ll Keep it….”.

It doesn’t capture the ache as well as other versions, but it’s such a nice performance; you can hear her smiling while singing it.

One of my favorite albums and "Flying..." is just so devastating - I've always thought it would be perfect to play at a funeral, but that it might be even too poignant for that.

like the 70s-equivalent LP by "The Bunch", this record is really more than the sum of its parts and works best as a whole imo

I agree. I started the poll mostly because I wanted to give the album its own thread.

So, starting this poll prompted me to look it up on Discogs and mention it to my wife in light of my upcoming birthday ... and now I'm a very happy owner of a vinyl copy.
