also these should be roughly in order from most recent to least. I'm listening to Naughty Boys right now!

at the risk of being cliche i went with in the aeroplane over the sea - it's a special record

which ones have really stood out to you?

tremolo, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 11:45 (two years ago)

Aeroplane did not unfortunately, haha. My answer is probably one of Slowdive, King Sunny Ade, CRJ, or Nick Cave. King Sunny Ade was the biggest surprise to me, pretty outside my wheelhouse (though you can see I'm listening to more African music lately), but really enjoyed it. It's a comp that includes most of Juju Music, so I'm def gonna check out some of his proper albums

voted Hearts and Bones

I Wanna Find an ILXor That'll Flag My Last Post Till I Have To Go (WmC), Wednesday, 6 September 2023 13:30 (two years ago)

Naughty Boys is my favorite pop album ever so I'm not getting past that one

frogbs, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 13:31 (two years ago)

Naughty Boys is what a Bryan Ferry solo album should sound like but generally doesn't, gets my vote!

I spent too long trying to write sensible SF (Matt #2), Wednesday, 6 September 2023 13:34 (two years ago)

Have to give it another couple listens before I vote in my own poll, but it's got a shot. I really enjoy it so far

i think curtis's self-titled was my top album when we did that 70s soul poll several years back. not sure if i would keep it there if i voted again, but it is certainly worth picking here.

I think I forgot to vote in my own poll haha, was on vacation. King Sunny would have been my vote I think. Here's my opinions on the top 5:

Hüsker Dü - Zen Arcade: I've liked a few of Bob Mould's later songs but this album didn't do much for me

Curtis Mayfield - Curtis: solid album, particularly the opening track and the one everyone knows. May or may not return to it

Paul Simon - Hearts and Bones: discovered how awesome Rhythm of the Saints is this year, so now giving a few more of his albums a proper listen. Didn't like this one as much, but the title track is one of his best ever songs imo

Rush - Moving Pictures: first Rush album for me, should have listened to them a lot sooner! Really dug about half this album and I suspect I'll like a lot of their catalog

Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea: as mentioned, not a standout for me, in spite of the massive love this album gets
