Does "Willin'" count?

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 15 September 2023 20:38 (two years ago)

Never mind, that's the opposite of what you're looking for.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 15 September 2023 20:38 (two years ago)

it's OK, the question has confused a lot of people so far! yeah tons of songs abt "pills" but valium etc not so much

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Friday, 15 September 2023 20:50 (two years ago)

Probably a lot more songs about amphetamines and other uppers, e.g., the song that I just mentioned.

Probably the most famous song I can think on this subject is The Rolling Stones - "Mother's Little Helper" (which yes I know is neither country nor Americana nor folk) but yet...

...the bridge ("Doctor please/Some more of these...") where the song suddenly breaks from its Aeloian/Romani mode into this very Carl Perkins-y rockabilly/western-swing or dare I say "Country" section....

A stretch but that's all I got on a Friday afternoon for ya.

Tbh while I know Mother's Little Helper is a name for valium I always thought the song was more about barbiturates, it's quite hard to OD on valium which the song warns about while quite easy to do on barbiturates which were also v common at the time

Jackie Curtis is on Valium on "Walk on the Wild Side" - but that's not exactly a country song either!
