I seem to be listening to mid 80s dischord emo-core to the exclusion of all else just now, any suggestions on how to wean myself back into different genres.

I realised it was getting really bad when i started searching for a copy of '1986' by One Last Wish.

...well I would say S Gainsbourg, but you're obviously a fan anyway.

Personally, I'd start with St Etienne's Smash the System comp (or So Tough).

Aphex Twin

Got lots of St Etienne. I think the DC hardcore's a reaction to all the German techno pop i've been listening to lately

shit, I can't blame you. I just got 20 Years Of Dischord and tracks 15-30 on disc 1 "the emo era" are VERY addictive.. I was just in Boston and picked up some Dag Nasty. I too want One Last Wish. Yer not alone!

To wean yself, start with early-to-mid 90s Dischord stuff, y'know, what all those losers did when they grew up a little. Post-punk whatev. Circus Lupus's SOLID BRASS is one of my all time favorite punk rock albums, fuck the post. Dig?
Also Lungfish's RAINBOWS FOR ATOMS is also v. v. good.
Then, go for Nation of Ulysses, which is probably the best place to close the book on punkarock.
Then it's time to buy Cat Stevens albums and looking fer grays in yr pubes.

THIS SOUNDS LIKE WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME. (Goes back to listening to Sun Ra and Mohinder)

Get some Journey.

work your way into the '90s with Slowdive and MBV. Buy some Sloan for relentless optimism to counter the fatalism of Field Day.

The Saints, I'm Stranded and Eternally Yours

Rock Lobster by the b-52's

Already got The Saints and MBV. It's not that i'm lacking other kinds of music, just the motivation to listen to it.

Buy some weed, then you'll see how great everything is

Try this, listen to one Dis/Emo/80s song then force yourslef to find and listen to an equivalent song in a different genre that you have in your collection.

To start you off, Fugazi's Wiating Room = what??? Glam Metal song???

This will help you appreciate that evrything is connected and we are all one being. Oh yes it will.
