2010s Imaginary Jukebox poll

OK, after a day or so of research to fill in some gaps I did one for the 2010s after all. This will probably be the last one unless I find time to do a 50s one. As I said before all the others: I made an imaginary jukebox for a few decades that contain 50 "singles" of one artist, or two similar songs or artists; so 100 songs in total. They reflect a mix of my own taste and (American) biases, plus what an average cross-section of people might want to listen to if this was a real jukebox in a bar or something (only popular stuff I can't stand at all was ruled out).

There are a few things here I generally never/wouldn't listen to that I felt obligated to include in keeping with the stated aims above. Still, this time Drake and Grimes join Kanye on the banned list.

This is brutally difficult

The Dua Lipa song is, of course, Don't Start Now, I obviously confused her with Guided by Voices.

Chris L, Tuesday, 19 September 2023 18:53 (one year ago)

Considering the setting and jukebox concept, I'm leaning toward Sky/Caroline

A few customary pairings above that didn't make it.

Chris L, Tuesday, 19 September 2023 19:09 (one year ago)

the Weyes Blood track is my favorite out of all of these but Rae Sremmurd / Migos might be the most solid pairing

The Ariana Grande songs are two that I had never heard before including them here (I liked them!) and for the first time I included a song I still have never heard: “All Too Well.” TS was simply one of the popular acts I felt needed to be there so I picked one that seemed highly rated.

Another great and extremely difficult set.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 20 September 2023 09:11 (one year ago)

voted for Caroline and Sky. if you'd paired Inspector Norse with Koze's XTC instead of Pick Up they might have had some competition

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

this is a fantastic poll :)

went for redbone/them changes, not because either is one of my absolute favourite songs but because they work perfectly as a pair and are both conducive to the kind of vibe i wanna set if i'm selecting a song on a jukebox

my fave song on here is sarah by alex g but i am absolutely not putting on mitski and alex g at the pub on a friday night. also i don't much care for mitski but completely agree that their fanbases overlap considerably

tremolo, Tuesday, 26 September 2023 13:48 (one year ago)

Yeah, I know "Blackstar/Epizootics!" is also not the ideal Friday night pub selection, but sometimes something I like, or I think is important and/or pairs together well, overrides that part of the concept.

Chris L, Tuesday, 26 September 2023 15:38 (one year ago)

voted for trap queen/magnolia

is he disgruntled adrian? (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 26 September 2023 15:39 (one year ago)

tho i probably would've paired trap queen with future's march madness, and moved magnolia down to hang with xo tour llif3

is he disgruntled adrian? (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 26 September 2023 15:40 (one year ago)

if we could afford one more trap pairing, i'd go

young thug & rich homie quan - "lifestyle"//kevin gates - "two phones"

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Wednesday, 27 September 2023 00:01 (one year ago)

These pairings are great I say do one for 2020-2023

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 27 September 2023 01:45 (one year ago)

Maybe a short version, but I'm gonna do one for the 1950s. I'm realizing how much good stuff would be on there and it is the actual jukebox era.

Chris L, Wednesday, 27 September 2023 05:17 (one year ago)

Very worthy top 4
