Now that they've finally been remastered, which are the ones to get? And are the UK or US versions superior?

I have not yet bought any of the re-issues but I heard a couple (Out Of Our Heads and Aftermath) and the sound is absolutely amazing. On the system I heard them on you could practically hear the dust sizzling on Keef's amp valves. Mind you, the quality of the previous CD re-issues was pretty bad.

I'm delighted that the UK version of the best Stones album, Between The Buttons, is now available on CD and I'll probably get that soonish along with the UK version of Aftermath. You can't really go wrong with any of them though.

No one ever mentions December's Children. Is this because it's the worst one?

Beggars Banquet and Let It Bleed are absolutely essential, Their Satanic Majesties Request is good and Flowers has 'Lady Jane' on it making it a necessity. Actually Dr. C is right - you can't really go wrong man; buy them all.

I like the first album (UK). It's got a real enthusiasm about it.

Andy, December's Children is bad because it was slapped together from various UK releases and singles for the US only - for Christmas no doubt.

I've seen Between the Buttons and earlier albums remastered, but still in their US configurations. Anybody know, are they now out in the states in UK fashion, or would that still be an import?

Curt (cgould), Tuesday, 3 December 2002 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Both configs are available on amazon.com (and .co.uk)

Start with Beggars Banquet and Let It Bleed. Then get Aftermath. Then see if you feel like continuing. None of the others are really essential.

James is right - the energy of their debut is irresistable. I'm only familiar with the US version. Their 3rd US album, Now! had a great swamp/roadhouse-R&B feel in covers like "Down Home Girl" and "Down the Road Apiece". 12X5 had that, too, but Now! flowed better and had better originals and fewer (or no) dud tracks.

December's Children contains "She Said Yeah" and is one of the Best Punk Albums in the World Ever.

I'm usually skeptical about buying things just because they've been remastered, etc. but ohmigod the sound is sooooooo much better.

Search: The first album (spotty but worth it just for "Carol"), Rolling Stones Now! ("You Can't Catch Me," "Mona," "Little Red Rooster" -- maybe their best album), Out of Our Heads (go with the UK version -- you lose "The Last Time" but pick up "She Said Yeah" and "I'm Free"), Aftermath (the US version has "Paint It Black," the UK has "Out of Time," a toss-up), Let It Bleed (NOT their best album, but awfully good).

Destroy: Got Live If You Want It, Satanic Majesties, Get Your Ya-Yas Out. (An overrated live band, their one recorded moment of concert nirvana was The TAMI Show.)

I never bothered with the pre-Beggars Banquet records because I had Hot Rocks. The one exception that I ended up with somehow: Flowers, which I cherish mainly for the shockingly cold "Back Street Girl."
