on account of I saw him live last night and it was tremendous, such a weird career he has had, involved with so many things for decades yet still largely anonymous
feel like I should prepare some kind of career retrospective for the uninitiated, and I will but the thing I find most fascinating is that it seems rare to have a musician that can book a gig just about anywhere despite having no "hits" and indeed he played zero Candy Butchers material or anything from "That Thing You Do" or "Walk Hard" last night and nobody was upset about it, this seems ideal to me as an artist
except for y'know I'm sure there's more money in having/playing the hits but then you're at the county fair singing songs you wrote 30-40 years ago and that's a depressing paycheck? maybe most paychecks are depressing paychecks, but Mike Viola live feels very much current and contemporaneous and full of light and laughter, great show
