I had lots more songs waiting to go that didn't make it into the first poll. So many in fact I decided not to have any repeat artists (at least not with a lead credit).

lol, what was this end date I entered. How did I enter a summer date I was thinking of? Always a fuck-up doing these.

Chris L, Friday, 13 October 2023 01:24 (two years ago)

Anyway, the end date was meant to be in 1 week. Have fun being confused when a system reminder pop up in August, I guess.

favorite: Shadow Of A Doubt
most inspiring: DKs "Halloween" has all time great lyrics

Red Right Hand

I really like Dragula, and for a while I thought it was pretty progressive for Rob Zombie to do a song about a cross-dressing vampire.

(I was not dumb enough to think that Red Right Hand was about playing Twister.)

Even though I comically screwed up the end date for this poll I decided I'm still going to hype up some of the tracks.

This song would sound great in a Rocky Horror-esque 70s rock musical. Not a cover of the Screaming Lord Sutch song.

don't want to be too obvious here but "bela lugosi's dead" really does tower above the other ones i've heard

Try telling that to the fearsome Pantherman's cowled visage.

I hope that August 2024 provides a terrifying enough context to reveal these poll results!

Though it's not especially scary, I'm voting for "Hammer Horror", Kate Bush's most underrated single. "I'm Deranged" passed me by when I heard 1.Outside, but seeing Lost Highway in the theatre gave it a solidity and drama I didn't perceive at first on the record. "Shadow of a Doubt" is interesting to listen to in this thematic context too.
A lot of songs that might deal with horror topics in a campy or kitschy way can be heard differently next to more serious songs on the same topic.

Halfway there but for you, Wednesday, 25 October 2023 03:27 (two years ago)

On that note, the Cheater Slicks have numerous songs that are like striking black and white photographs of lonely, desolate scenes. I've always been especially impressed with this one, which is like a large, grey canvas painting of the same theme.

And here's one of the Dirtbombs' Cheater Slicks covers, which shares a name with the cult classic movie but little else Halloween-y except for fitting moody intensity.

Check the lyrics of this one -- is this Prince's "Frankie Teardrop?" As yet unreleased from The Vault, I believe.

"Mind Playin' Tricks on Me" is an obvious Halloween favorite, but I included this one because Bushwick Bill's bizarre freestyle threats make me laugh, along with him comparing himself to the diminutive murderous doll.
