For example, there is a part of the U2 song I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For where the Edge's guitar sounded just like our doorbell from the house where I lived with my parents, as I did when the song came out in 1987.
So much so, in fact, that the first couple times I heard the song on the radio, I rushed to the front door and opened to find nobody there.
I am now watching the vid of the band traipsing through Vegas to see if I can figure out which bit. Gosh, Bono looks young. Ok, it's at 3.11, in the "carried the cross of my shame" part.

This is my sort of thread
First thing that comes to mind is Blur's Girls & Boys, where as a child I heard looped woofing as per the album sleeve. And I've never really gotten over it.

Peatbog Faeries' Wacko King Hako has these big violent sounds that might be a chainsaw but remind me of elephants.

Though the U2 one certainly made an impression it's not my favourite. That'll be the sound in a song from a year earlier.
Sinful by Pete Wylie has a bit around 2.32 which really reminds me of the sound the flying saucer made as it went across the top of the screen in the Space Invaders arcade game. The one that was hard to hit but got you plenty of points, though pay too much heed to it and an invader would land or shoot through the last bit of your shields and you'd be brown bread, mate!

There's a sound in "Astral Weeks", not a sung lyric, that sounds like someone calling my given name. I still pull off the headphones to look around or whirl round in surprise if I'm not expecting it.

The last bit of feedback at the very end of this Ride song always reminded me of a train: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDj8bo68howLike one of these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sHoWYRDh3USo the same thing happens in reverse: whenever I hear a train hooter, I think of that song.

the last track on Faust's So Far has this voiceover which somehow sounds like it's coming from behind you. like a train announcement or something. not sure how exactly they got it to sound that way but it's kind of a jumpscare if you don't know it's there.

Madonna's Who's that Girls reminds me of the sound of Berlins S-Bahn

There's a sound in "Astral Weeks" Pink Floyd "Dogs", not a sung lyric, that sounds like someone my Mom calling my given name from downstairs. More than once I still pull off the headphones to look around or whirl round in surprise if I'm not expecting it opened my bedroom door and yelled "What?"

there's a harmonica bit early on (staccato, straightforward bit played by bob nastanovich) in rattled by the rush that i always imagined was a car horn, like an old jalopy. a lot of malkmus / pavement songs sound cartoonish in my head, esp. those after crooked rain.

Xp “Can’t Wait Too Long” by The Beach Boys is the song where I hear someone call my name. Also would pull of my headphones and tell “What?” at my parents. Did not know that this happened to other people

Pole 3 (stefan betke) has weird, fragmented recordings of voices, people talking, etc. - mixed into the fabric of some of the tracks in such a way that it sounds like it's external, or "right behind me" ... i recall being fooled by that album a couple times, walking to & from work, around the time of its release.

Muse's Panic Station has what sounds like people chatting in the background between 1:32-1:35. First time I noticed it in headphones I thought my mum was shouting from downstairs.

i had a debut magazine that had a big sound authority song on it and in the middle it sounded like i heard my mom yelling my name from downstairs and i turned my stereo down more than once because of that! fooled me at least two or three times. i liked the song a lot too. studio version isn't on youtube.

BTTW 90 by A Certain Ratio has odd noises throughout which remind me both of a person clearing their throat, perhaps ostentatiously, to gain attention, "A-HEMMM!", and also the noises that town pigeons make constantly as they go about their daily business.

I heard my doorbell being pressed once at the very beginning of Personal Jesus and repeatedly, insistently after "now I'm not so sure" (1:11) in I Started Something I Couldn't Finish. Which was annoying because I spent the late 80s in my bedroom listening to Depeche Mode and the Smiths and desparately hoping the doorbell wouldn't ring.

The Cure's Never Enough Big Mix has a discordant guitar wail come in at 5:28 and it used to catch me off-guard thinking it was a sound from elsewhere

there's a voice at the very beginning of 'while my guitar gently weeps' that, the very first time I heard it, on a cassette playing on a crappy little machine in my bedroom when I was 7, I misheard as my dad yelling my name from the other room, and to this day whenever I hear the song I still hear my dad yelling my name.

The big dramatic echo-laden shout of "footloose!" that follows the breakdown in the song of the same name has always reminded me of the sound effects used for the werewolves in Joe Dante's "The Howling." I must have seen the movie for the first time somewhere around when the song was ubiquitous.

There is a sound at about 3:18 in the background of ‘Hungry Like Wolf’ that sounds just like my sister shouting downstairs to my mum. The doors creaking at my FE college sounded just like start of ‘True Faith’.
Of course one of the founding moments of Ilx is Dr C claiming that my bloody valentine sounded like his mum’s old hoover.

Is there a name for the sequence of three notes that play at the start of a PA system (a.k.a. Tannoy) announcement, which are the equivalent of Gladys Pugh's glockenspiel in Hi-de-Hi (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aw9bGwlfbxM)?
Well, the Oxford station announcement system's example of *that* sounds like the start of Bill is Dead by the Fall, and vice versa.
