Why hasn't anyone said anything about the new Blur single?

The more demented they become, the more I like them. "Don't Bomb When You're The Bomb" is an absurd sample surrounded by a loud bass line and half-formulated ideas for about five different songs. Clearly, it's absolute genius.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 3 December 2002 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Blur make music now?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 December 2002 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

They now make gonzo-house!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 3 December 2002 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

they've got new shit out? nobody tells me anything!

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 3 December 2002 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Blur are genius these days?

That said -- haven't heard it, so who knows? But your description unnervingly sounds like Damon came back from the Gorillaz tour and said, "Say, you miserable little proles who work for me, I've got a cunning plan for a hit single..."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I hear this anywhere? I'm not able to frequent the Rough Trade shop in Talbot Road, seeing as I live in another country.

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Apparently one of the tracks that nearly got onto their new album was called "Elton John's Cock".

Some person on Soulseek has the new single, but it's in a queue of about 130.

Chriddof (Chriddof), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"what lez zep and can would sound like" together - that was Blur's stated intention earlier this year. I am not a Blur fan - but this is probably the most abstract sound they have managed todate - from the tracks i have heard on the radio over the years.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

lez zep

BEST BAND EVER.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I am in awe.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:14 (twenty-two years ago)

God yes, this is genius. Makes me feel vindicated for sticking with them for so long (and ignoring the hordes of fun-hating anti-Albarnites on ILM)

I mean, fucking hell, it's got bubbly sounds! And it sends out the right message- surely even Dubbya will understand now that he shouldn't bomb when he's the bomb (let's just hope he doesn't find out that he, in fact, isn't the bomb) The best anthem that the No War On Iraq movement could ever have hoped for! Protest song of the year!

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:14 (twenty-two years ago)

it's been played on Xfm a few times:

Tune in on the web @ Xfm you may be lucky !

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

"Why hasn't anyone said anything about the new Blur single?"

Cos I haven't heard it. The last album was pretty ropey, so I'm not too keen. Their high point was and is the Britpop trilogy 1993-95.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:20 (twenty-two years ago)

the hordes of fun-hating anti-Albarnites on ILM

Ahem. THE DAY THAT HATING SOMETHING EQUATES A LACK OF ANY SORT OF FUN IS THE DAY THAT THE HUMAN RACE CAN FINALLY BE IGNORED AS A GENETIC ABERRATION ON THE FACE OF THIS STUPID, SQUELCHING PLANET.

Thank you. That is all.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:21 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, i finally agree with ned about something. the first sign of the apocalypse is here. ;)

jack cole (jackcole), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned hates "hates fun" fun.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

(Also, that day happened, like, EONS ago.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:37 (twenty-two years ago)

The version I downloaded sounded crap and had no melody.

Adam A. (Keiko), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

The version I downloaded sounded crap and had no melody.

That'll be the real version then. No, seriously, every time I think it's impossible for Damon Albarn to get worse, he lowers the bar yet again and limbos underneath it. The downward trajectory is just incredible.

Ok, to be completely fair, it's not actually worse than "Music Is My Radar".

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Also- it's a Fatboy Slim production, right? Reprezent!

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I liked "Music Is My Radar", and I'm willing to admit that this one might be good on a professional quality copy.. but what the hell are they doing?

Adam A. (Keiko), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Listen, I can't find this for download ANYWHERE, where are you people finding it?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 01:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I got it on Soulseek, but the version you find there may sound like someone held a microphone up to their television.

Adam A. (Keiko), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

People who hate Albarn hate cockfarmers not fun you sillies!

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 02:40 (twenty-two years ago)

1st listen: What the...?! This is junk!
2nd listen: Hmm. I thought this is what Gorillaz was for.
3rd listen: It's definitely not like the Blur to which I've become accustomed.
4th listen: You know? It's not bad at all.
5th (and current) listen: This song really does have a purpose. It's good enough to be included on a mix tape to bridge the gap between a rock track and an electro track.

paul cox (paul cox), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 04:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Ahem.

Blurillaz!

Haven't heard the track yet though, but looking forward to it.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 04:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Urteilsspruch: fauler Schinken

Melissa W (Melissa W), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Scrapple? Gutes Beobachtung, Mellisa.

B, Wednesday, 4 December 2002 08:28 (twenty-two years ago)

it's not the single. it's off the album, but it's not going to
be the first single. they're not *that* daft.

piscesboy, Wednesday, 4 December 2002 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

It was released as a white label.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...
why didn't DON'T BOMB... go on the album?

what was it on in the end?

pisces (piscesx), Thursday, 29 June 2006 15:32 (eighteen years ago)

our dick.
