No, seriously, what should I get?

John Darnielle to thread!

In the meantime: "Everybody's Dead (Oh, No)" is fantastic (also their most "rock" moment). I couldn't get "Yesterday Her Lugs Exploded" out of my head for a month or so this summer, & actually recorded my own version of "Daphne Stepping Sideways"...

All you Inland Empire-knowing folks - last year, when Franklin Bruno was touring with Jenny Toomey, he opened a set w/ some acapella WCKR SPGT song / vignette about a spoonbender in a diner, or some such thing. I was crying from laughter. Where can I find this li'l nugget? Do you know whereof I speak?

All the Furniture Huschle stuff is completely essential: "The Man Who Bent Spoons With His Mind" is the song in question. The video for it is among the funniest things I have ever seen in my life. Search also the post-Furniture Huschle project, "Intimate Butler," and the super-secret grindmetal project, "Corpsefucker."

As to SPGT themselves I am partial to the mid-period stuff -- Monroe Pole, Dance 'Til You Stop, the totally godlike "Mining to Hell" (a rock opera credited to Jo and the Weasels, about a bunch of weasels who are engaged in the project of, um, mining to Hell).

More SPGT info than you can probably handle is here: http://www.wckrspgt.com/

One lonesome Furniture Huschle mp3 is here:

And the video of Joel performing 100 songs in a row, entitled "Too Much Joel," is over by my VCR, and we'll convert it to digital video when we get around to it, at which point, David Douglas and Donut, you should get on my back to get a copy to you. The whole band is wrapped in color-coordinated Saran Wrap. Incredible.

John, did you ever see a WCKR show where Joel Huschle performed in a straitjacket and applied Krazy Glue all over his head? I've heard about it, and it's been driving me nuts that I missed it.

I did get to see a Furniture Huschle show once (at the world famous Blackwatch Pub.. UNH! Upland homies rezpect), and instead of color coordinated Saran Wrap, it was matching glittering happy bunnies t-shirts. They did an amazing song with backbreakingly hilarious lyrics involving a guy in a hospital bed who found out his IV was just a huge bent out paper clip, or something.

I didn't see the straitjacket show & I'd be inclined to guess that it's apocryphal unless it's supposed to be post-'95, which I'd also doubt. However I was at the show where they had Rice Krispies treats in the shape of the crucified Christ. Yes, that's right, "Christ Krispies." They were delicious.
