Has Hell frozen over? For years, Ministry‘s Al Jourgensen has disavowed his 1983 debut, With Sympathy, as sugary synthpop garbage. So it may come as a surprise to fans of the band that Ministry will be playing songs from With Sympathy and their second album, 1986’s darker and more industrial Twitch, at the 2024 Cruel World Festival.Jourgensen has actually been hinting this year that this might happen, saying that frequent tourmate Gary Numan had given him an idea to rework early songs and re-own them, so to speak. “We’re doing ‘Revenge’… this version that we have, it’s going to be different,” he told Yahoo! Entertainment this summer. “Let’s turn it from this synthpop thing into a metal arena-rock song… and then we’ll take it from there and see where it goes… If we can make it sound the way I want it, when I originally came up with these songs, then yes, I will do [a full tour behind the release]. If not, I won’t. … So, we’re working our way towards putting a bow on the whole thing and calling it a career. And then everyone can leave me the fuck alone so I can do what the fuck I want.”

It would be awesome if some band's logo were literally a blur.
Some choice reunions in there and/or a lot of bands with nebulous lineups.

xpost they can't announce that band yet. probably playing an LA show soon and they have to wait till after that.
so ... normally i am all for bands continuing on in whatever form they want, after whatever personnel issues they have, keeping the name that makes them money, etc., etc. obviously sometimes it ends up bad, but it's other people's lives/bands, so it's their call. i am not in charge of their band!
but there's something about Power Trip continuing as Power Trip without Riley Gale that feels different (and icky) to me.
i suppose if i knew more about how much each member contributed to the songwriting, i might feel different. like maybe Gale just wrote lyrics? i don't know. but even then, it just feels like he was *the* face and personality of that band, and plugging in a different singer doesn't feel right.

tbh that punk festival thing is $200 and seems like it usually costs more than just to see the Misfits now so if I lived in the US I'd consider it. but it's only 1 day so while there's lots of bands I like playing you'd only get to see a few of them and I bet all the ones I haven't seen would clash with each other. I've seen 13 of them before anyway

Yeah, this current trend of super-stacked one-day festivals (at 2-3 day festival prices) is super shitty IMO. Super exploitative for a number of reasons, though most folks don't seem to care.
