POLL inside my THREAD - the Suicidal Tendencies albums poll

apologies for the terrible title. anyway we have threads but I want us to pick the best album.

yeah, obviously it's gonna be mostly vote-splitting among four albums but like this is a band where people prefer different eras, not just everyone saying the s/t is obviously the best.

anyway this is a band that has meant a lot to me in trying times and also good times and I'm sure you feel the same way.

STAY CYCO! ST! ST! ST!

anyway, my vote goes to Lights, Camera, Revolution!

s/t slightly behind, followed by How Will I Laugh. I still get chills during the intro to "You Can't Bring Me Down" before the distortion kicks in and the song kicks into high gear, and remarkably it doesn't let up much after that. the writing is top notch throughout.

the s/t is near perfect itself, surfy hardcore, a song called "I Shot Reagan", and a skating vibe. and so quick!

How Will I Laugh Tomorrow is also a favorite, I don't think it hits all of the highs, but the emotional title track, "Miracle", "Trip at the Brain" have nice melodic tendencies amidst the thrash.

The "trilogy" — How Will I Laugh.../Controlled.../Lights... is really about as strong a collection of albums as any of the "Big Four" made a few years earlier. And as I've mentioned earlier, seeing them live in 1990 was fucking incredible.

I once got to interview Thundercat and when I asked him about his time playing in ST he lit right up.

Voted HWILT.

missed this. I think I need to listen to the late 80s stuff again because I've got into a lot more crossover stuff than I had when I tried them before. I would be a 1st album only purist with this band otherwise

mind you I did listen to the album that won this recently and thought it sucked so maybe not

man the ST show ruled the other night. I thought they were just gonna do the s/t in its entirety, which...hey, s/t is my fav, so wouldn't complain, but kinda wanted to hear the thrashy stuff too. but I lucked out, they didn't do that - they did a good mix of all eras (though thankfully very little to none from post-Lights, Camera, Revolution, other than two Freedumb songs).

Mike sounded like a motivational speaker on vocals, he was amped up at 11 from the first moment of the show. we got thrown "Send Me Your Money" and "Lovely", to scratch the funk-metal itch, got the usual songs from the s/t (including "I Shot Reagan", yayyyyyyy), the two songs they always do from Join the Army ("Possessed to Skate", "War Inside My Head"), the title track to How Will I Laugh Tomorrow (hate all you want, I love that song).

got to see it with my cousin who I Haven't seen since 2001 and his wife. back then I was clean shaven, no tatts, and weighed 140 pounds and never spoke, and he looked like a vocalist from an industrial metal band (well, because he was at the time). nice reunion.

sadly drinking that much whiskey gave me a gout flareup.

also....Ty Trujillo is a fucking badass on the bass. like he's a very small young man and the thing looks gigantic in his hands, and he plays it like he came out of the womb playing it.

still getting used to Ben Weinman from DEP being in the band. are they gonna put out a math rock album?

Ben Weinman from DEP

WHAT? I do not understand why Muir consistently recruits virtuoso level players — Weinman, Dave Lombardo, Thundercat — to play his music. It's almost perverse, but hilarious at the same time, because it makes you think, "Wait...are Suicidal Tendencies songs actually way more challenging than they sound?"

Was listening to L...C...R in the car earlier today. It rules.
