new album just dropped; here's the imo best track, which I've rather hyperbolically described as 'an Ice Hockey Hair for the 20s'

but really their 2020 album 'the peculiar smell of the inevitable' is the one, a staggeringly 'what if we precision-engineered an indie-rock album for lj' sort of achievement, a breakneck 36-minute joyride through absurdly intense garagey psych-punk with the most addictive harmonising vocals in living memory. discovered the other week, already one of my favourite albums ever

missold them as indie rock to mimic the ratboys thread but honestly I demand the Snooper massive drop by and give The Peculiar Smell Of The Inevitable a whirl. demand!

perhaps I didn't post enough videos. this is from the EP immediately preceding that album (that points the way to it) and well, don't they remind you a bit of a certain psych-prog-punk band eh? bonus: the video is good!

breaking my lurk-rule to say i checked out the album on this recommendation and while i was a bit confused as to how they were Imago Approved, but they totally won me over by the end of it.

yeah it's funny, they *do* have some of the early/mid-80s cardiacs favoured chord changes but it all stays in this very straight garage-y power pop comfort-food area.

the 1-2-3 in the middle of Blurred Visions, Rats and then Uncanny Valley is A+++

honestly I can't really explain it either, but I just cannot stop wanting to put it back on. what have they laced the audio with ffs! they are very good at making the exact most arresting melodic choice possible

throw in the blown-out Sing To God production, all in-the-red urgency and piercing keyboards at the highest edge of the sound, and um yes lol
