I actually listened to that and you don't need to you can already guess what it sounds like. shit like this is just begging for AI to take over the music industry if it isn't already. I forgot how much I hated those fucking synth barn stomps

Left, Sunday, 28 January 2024 19:38 (one year ago)

as for tom macdonald who is his actual fanbase? people who are upset about eminem going woke? trump kids homeschooled on pragerU vids / their parents? rap hating dads enjoying a little transgressive thrill?

Left, Sunday, 28 January 2024 19:45 (one year ago)

haven't listened to this hot garbage but supposedly it contains the lyric "all my people download this, let's get a billboard number one", they don't even bother to hide the grift anymore in this post-"try that in a small town" landscape

anyway yes the audience is olds who still buy on itunes, this guy's entire career is sustained on getting paypigs to download his shit for one week

tom macdonald makes me think of when they would try and make christian hip-hop/rock/pop-punk so that church kids would have "cool" music that's safe listen to but now it's "cool music that's safe for 50-year-old trump supporters to listen to" (ie dudes who are shocked when they figure out that rage against the machine is left-wing). some of them are probably the same people, spending their whole life listening to bad versions of cool music that's been sanitized for their niche worldviews.

One of the funniest things about the aforementioned phenomenon is that the biggest fans of "classical" religious music that I know are totally non-religious.

Nepo baby right wing Times journalist Charlotte Gill has been spent the last couple of days loudly decrying funded research on anything not of obvious benefit to the economy. In her twitter bio she links her soundcloud, where she is putting out music she's made. What do you think it might sound like? Well...

Some of this sounds fine, as far as like sub-Roedelius Reface preset demonstration goes. It doesn't offend me and it's no worse than loads of other unexceptional quasi-ambient gumming up the works

Paul Ponzi, Tuesday, 26 March 2024 16:57 (one year ago)

it's like ai-generated hold music for a spa, inoffensive maybe but completely without merit.

I heard this song today, and my reaction in real time was basically (sigh) ... really? You didn't want to give that another pass? It's like a totally unambitious cross between Coldplay, "Hey Soul Sister" and a bunch of other stomp clap hey music.

i guess we'll never be rid of band kids/berklee grads flaunting their terrible tastes in hip hop and r&b. i don't know why there are 40 people in this band
they played it on fallon too:

why do they have two keyboard players and a piano player? why is there a guy playing bass ukelele?

i was tempted to put this on the pomplamoose thread, it's not as twee but feels the same to me

Clyde and Gracie Lawrence are siblings (three and a half years apart in age); they have created music and performed together since their childhood.[2] Their father, Marc Lawrence, is a filmmaker, screenwriter, and director best known for movies like Miss Congeniality and Music and Lyrics.

other people on the internet pointed this out but the song really sounds like that "jedi rocks!" song from jabba's palace in the special edition of return of the jedi

i'm still so sad sometimes about the absolutely dire state major label 'pop' remains in. i did willingly choose to listen to the myles smith song over a dull waxahatchee one that the one other radio station not playing ads was spinning today, tho, so who am i to judge

dyl, Tuesday, 22 October 2024 23:30 (seven months ago)

who knows, maybe i'll end up hearing the waxahatchee tune in full on the ilm 77!

butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Wednesday, 23 October 2024 00:36 (seven months ago)

i like waxahatchee OK, but if you think "Right Into It" is worse than that Myles Smith song, i don't know what to tell you.

alpine static, Wednesday, 23 October 2024 00:52 (seven months ago)

god that Alphaville sampling song made me so upset, the original is one of those songs which, while sappy and more than a little overwrought, is absolutely perfect. it has made me cry before because, well, it has that effect. just insane that a living human would think to fuck up such a thing. i hope David Guetta dies of gonorrhea and rots in hell

Um, UB40 cover?

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 31 May 2025 15:21 (one week ago)

They probably have no idea about it being a Neil Diamond song

Neanderthal, Saturday, 31 May 2025 17:25 (one week ago)

Probably. Though why did they credit Always On My Mind to Brenda Lee? I can't imagine her version is the one they were most familiar with.
