Music that rocks in 2024

i'd like to try and revive this rolling thread concept that i started in 2022.

i'll copy in this important note from the old thread: "TO BE TOTALLY CLEAR: this is a genre-agnostic definition of "music that rocks." this is not necessarily music with guitars and acoustic drums. it is music that when you hear it, you think "this rocks." to me, that is music that gives you a jolt of energy, makes your pulse quicken, etc. but whatever new music makes you think "hell yeah this rocks," please post it on this thread."

This is really good. Ben Folds meets Microdisney - a baroque pop concept album about a punk rock band reforming. Crazy that its some kid from his bedroom in Birmingham

some stuff i've found so far this year that rocks:

petit bureau - bears brain = french duo doing stripped-down post-punk with lots of focus on toms and chanted vocals, produced by greg saunier from deerhoof
yungatita - shoelace & a knot = indie rock from east l.a., catchy songs that often get noisy in the vein of alvvays

it's funny to search for petit bureau on youtube bc it mostly pulls up tiny desk concerts

new album by mop (not m.o.p.) rocks pretty hard, and is easily digestible at only 21 mins. great album artwork, too. for fans of early breeders.

i don't know how i feel about the band name Guitar but I really like their album: https://sparedflesh.bandcamp.com/album/casting-spells-on-turtlehead. some of it makes me think of what i'd categorize as "ameerican shoegaze" e.g. swirlies, wicked farleys.

and as noted on the rolling punk thread, the new uranium club album is fantastic

Couple of garage rock tangential albums I'm digging -

Charles Moothart - Black Holes Don't Choke - fuzzed out psych-garage rock in line with what Moothart has done before, but feels more expansive (RIYL Ty Segall, Mikal Cronin)

Meatbodies - Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom - massive '90s shoegaze and alt-rock vibes on this one, really liking it (RIYL DIIV, early Smashing Pumpkins)

Parquet Courts vibe with the vocals, but lots of interesting twists in some of these songs

That Arsgoatia rocks pretty good. I think 2024 is going to go down as the year that a lot of people got rocked by Chat Pile. they certainly fit my mood a lot!
