MT has a new solo album coming out later this month and also this is an incredible record that deserves way more credit as a 90s indie rock landmark

bought this from cheapo, along with the barry black s/t album, when i was living in minneapolis in 1995

laid in bed with headphones on and listened to it twice in a row

mookieproof, Tuesday, 6 February 2024 07:20 (one year ago)

Should give this another listen but Pat’s Trick is a such an undeniable opener.

Medusa by a snaky hair for me, with Baby's Going Underground (her shoegaziest!) and Honeycomb close behind, whole album ofc completely rules

There’s a lot of weird and subtly gorgeous music here.

Going with “Medusa”

voting trixie, the best distillation of what this album is up to imo

Torn between Trixie and Underground

waste of compute (One Eye Open), Tuesday, 6 February 2024 15:14 (one year ago)

"Underground" live was so menacing... despite only the one guitar I believe she live-sampled the droning intro and then punched back into it for a set-closing extended outro. Ash on bass but also playing Casio with his bare toes was a sight to behold. West Hollywood, Troubadour ~1995 ish.

Going Superball

calstars, Tuesday, 6 February 2024 17:33 (one year ago)

Only got into this in the last few years, and I saw them live more than once back in the day!

They have an odds and sods comp that is just as good as this.

Voted Superball.

I have gotten really into the magic city over the past few years but never got hooked on this one, for some reason! “Pat’s Trick” is all time of course.

LUCY from the singles comp/what's up matador/etc is also fantastic

I haven't listened to this in a minute, man it sounds so great, gonna be hard to deny "Pat's Trick" but I love "Skeleton" so much...

chr1sb3singer, Tuesday, 20 February 2024 14:36 (one year ago)

lots of good songs, but "pat's trick" is the classic for a reason. runner-ups would be "skeleton" and "superball," but can't justify voting for it over "pat's trick"

Yeah it has to be PT. I remember trying to see them that year at the knitting factory and the show either being cancelled or sold out. Was v sad.

Cute that the halloweeny instrumental (Comet #9) is the third most played on spotify - wonder what kind of playlists it's on.

Voting Honeycomb - a highlight of 90s pseudo country / lofi balladry. Whole album is an experience though, super catchy and diverse, smeary and bleary yet highly architected.

I might go for Skeleton. should probably listen to the album first though cos I haven't heard it for years
