i'm going into the belly of the beast! haven't done one since way BEFORE the pandemic. Maria did one in New Haven last month. i'd had it with the edgy dude energy. it was making my stomach hurt. but fuckit now that the world is teetering on the edge i fear no man/woman/person. life is short. who cares? plus i need money for a big tax bill. and i just need money. always need money. gonna bring tons of cool stuff.

if you are on the east coast and feel like paying way too much for pure prairie league records BUT also like to see way more cool records in one place than you usually see, come see me!! NORTHAMPTON MASS at the awesome old train station this coming Saturday. Maria and I will both be there. i will be next to Byron Coley bugging him for gossip about Liquid Liquid and for stories about that time that Tav Falco, Lydia Lunch, and Herbert Huncke...oh god who knows. He's got a million of them. i'll probably just ask him how it went writing Thurston's book. hahahaha! kidding! i'm a stinker.

anyway, feel free to talk record shows here. going to any? do you ever? get any good deals? i'm totally gonna buy some jazz records. maybe Byron still has that alternate Pharoah Sanders cover that i need. i don't have it!

my pal justin who is putting on this show - shout out to the Peace & Rhythm crew! - does FIFTY shows a year. and he's still one of the genuinely nicest i know. its crazy. i don't know how he does it. WFMU, everything. i would jump off a bridge if i did more than 5.

OH SNAP that show this weekend is SUNDAY not saturday. i always do stuff like that. that's cool though. more time to fill crates.

scott seward, Monday, 26 February 2024 21:41 (one year ago)

like an idiot i like to bring stuff to shows that has never been in the store just to make things hard for myself. gonna price/bag/fill 12 crates. plus 6 boxes of CDs. loaded for bear as they say.

scott seward, Monday, 26 February 2024 21:42 (one year ago)

guessing this is for two tables then? I can only fit 8 crates on a single, I think

justin said they are 8 foot tables and 12 crates should be fine. and i'm gonna put 6 flat boxes of CDs underneath and maybe a couple of extra LP boxes. our car can't really take much more than that anyway. in the old days we had a big mini-van that held a zillion crates. but as time went on i realized that if i curated right i could make as much/more with 10+ crates. i'm looking forward to it!

I wish I could put stuff on the floor as well but it is in a fairly narrow spot in a video-game bar, when I've tried people either ignore it or get in the way. I can make up for this by putting stuff on the booth seats behind my table.

Anybody remember when the Austin Record Show was at the old Crockett Center on 290? Such narrow aisles and so, so many fat men...

that show was mayhem! so many people. me and byron had fun. i picked up tons of cool psych records for cheap. someone was blowing out new records for $15 bucks a pop too. had to buy some of that for the store. he had bought a distro's stock. sealed bitches brew and beyonce and blue note and all that stuff you see at barnes & noble for $$$. so many good records everywhere for decent prices. seemed like people were getting real and peak vinyl might be over. everyone wanted to SELL. you know? we did good. i counted and we sold records and CDs to 60 people. and with so many dealers there that says i brought the right stuff.

that would be really great if the vinyl fad mellowed out… the last record fair I went too sucked ass, plenty of good stuff but really unpleasant fevered Black Friday type atmosphere
