That Bloodflower link just doesn't want to post correctly.

This and the self titled are yet to be polled. After the recent talk on the Cure thread, I went to see these results and saw we haven't done this yet. So I'm choosing this one over the s/t for selfish reasons.

Underneath the Stars in a cakewalk, the rest of the album doesn't really merit attention.

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Thursday, 29 February 2024 18:17 (one year ago)

pretty dispiriting that the clear highlight of this 2008 (?) LP is a reworking of a track from 1991

i remember quite liking It’s Over when it showed up in live sets prior to this album’s release (called Baby Rag Doll Book or something which is a much better name) - and istr maybe The Scream had a little something going on

can i be bothered to listen to it again though?

I really love this album and play it a lot

The highlights have already been mentioned but I also really like:

2. "The Only One" 3:57
6. "The Real Snow White" 4:43
7. "The Hungry Ghost" 4:29
9. "The Perfect Boy" 3:21
11. "Sleep When I'm Dead" 3:51

Search also the Freakshow b-side “All Kinds Of Stuff”

It was absolutely monstrous at the Hollywood Bowl show that year, the more remarkably so because that was the quartet version of the band (Pearl's last go-round too, I seem to remember? Her, Simon, Jason and Robert.)

there is just something about the way this album is mixed, there is no space or depth in it - previous Cure albums (or at least up to Disintegration) had this quality of being able to crawl inside and inhabit them, you would sit inside the sound, the songs were spaces to visit - here there is just no way to get inside

I don't have the audio engineering knowledge to understand or properly articulate why - but that is how it feels

like, I think the songs are less good too obviously - and yeah sure i can't expect to form the same emotional relationship with a Cure LP that I did when I was a teenager - but still, a sonically beautiful Cure LP would go a long way

the new album’s songs have the potential for it but the last remasters strongly suggest that Robert’s hearing is long too fucked to mix anything with space or depth

Beautifully put emsworth, tho I don't agree that this is worthless. Nothing touches their run through Wish but I have played this a few times.

If I rated just the singles, it would go in this order:

"The Perfect Boy"
"Sleep When I'm Dead"
"The Only One"
"Freakshow"

"Underneath the Stars" might/could make my Top 25.

I threw this on last night, I love the run from The Real Snow White - The Perfect Boy, good songs. I like this album. Boy does the production suck, but it's better than the self titled.

Hopefully the dream of these Lost World songs comes out. And with a good producer, so the songs can breathe.

Same here, good songs mostly but dreadful mixing + RS' shouty voice too high on teh mix. I quite enjoyed a live preview they did for MTV when the album came out, which benefited most of the songs, but can't seem to find the audio to that online.

I relistened to it for the first time in years and it's better than I remembered. I don't know if I can find a favorite song though.
I wish it was recorded in 1986.
