RFI: Dumbest Album/CD cover ever

Message Bookmarked

I have to give a work gift to someone - I want to wrap it in a CD case with a really stupid cover.

remember:
-The person I'm giving it to is not real hip.
-It has to be tasteful enough for an office (I don't want to get marched down to H.R., dig?)
-I need to be able to download the cover art (front cover at least...)

..What's universally bad - bad picture, bad title ...

.. not important what the CD actually sounds like because I'm not including it.

Whatcha got?

Any Manowar album

Try Louis Prima's The Call Of The Wildest - it's pictured on AMG. Fat Italian guy in clothes unhip for the late '50s (imagine Rodney Dangerfield on the golf course in Caddyshack), with an amusingly fake-looking moose's head peering over a studio bush. It's my favourite album cover.

Trouble is, and this is not a risk with Manowar, it's a better album than whatever you're likely to be wrapping up!

This one always....ummm....struck me.

Get down to Vinyl Vulture. There's usually some interesting sleeves on display.

That Vinyl Vulture site was good. I love Frank's Vinyl Museum

Frank's is where I found Ali vs. Mr. Tooth Decay. Frank's comments can be pretty stupid, too.

will some one put the cover of Queen's "The Miracle" up here? I can't get my computer to do it.

Good lord, some of these are brilliant.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 5 December 2002 17:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I especially like The Bump...

These were all great suggestions & may still be used in the future for other projects..

The "winner" was Curt - who's pick didn't make it onto the cover, but another cover from the place he stole "Country Church" did:
http://www.io.com/~dork/pics/recpics5/congalonga.jpg

You may be saying, "you lame-o! That's the worst cover of them all!"
.. but remember:
-The person I'm giving it to is not real hip.
-It has to be tasteful enough for an office
.. disqualified many of them (Whitesnake being one..)

Also, any religious themes were nixed because of potentially ultra-sensitive coworkers... (those religious types can't see the humor in themselves..)

So I chose this one because I thought the recipient would immediately ask themselves "What the fuck is this shit?" - which was the intended goal.

.. so don't let that stop you from posting other dumb looking cover art .. CONTINUE!

Emmet Matheson, Thursday, 5 December 2002 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, that IS kinda spooky.

dave: i knew that the whitesnake cover would probably be over the top for an office, but you gotta give it to them ... it is disturbingly close to the 'smell the glove' cover from spinal tap (anyone remember the description of that? it's fucking ace)

Jay K (Jay K), Thursday, 5 December 2002 20:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Dear Sweet Jebus, that Geraldine and Ricky is gonna haunt my frickin' nightmares.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 5 December 2002 20:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to print out Whitesnake and Brother Dave and give them out at my office party, because where I work WE'RE ALL HIPSTERS and nothing can offend us!

Curt (cgould), Thursday, 5 December 2002 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Dave, did you catch the "lot lizard" transaction in this one at that site?

Curt (cgould), Thursday, 5 December 2002 21:27 (twenty-three years ago)

The Brother Dave Gardner record is a comedy record. My dad has some of his records, but this one doesn't look familiar. (Rev. Horton Heat ought to steal this cover or that old Louvin brother's album "Satan Is Real".)

I am so thankful that that damn Royal Trux record with the yak in the stool isn't here.

Is there a special trick to pasting an image in here? I can't seem to make it work on my computer.

Paula G., Thursday, 5 December 2002 21:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Paula, you need to find the image online, then paste its URL into the following, replacing PICURL, and enclose it with lessthan and greaterthan symbols.

img src="PICURL"

To see what I'm saying, select "Show Source" from your browser's menu and look at the lines that produced the images above.
