Kartel, Future and Thug are three of my favorite artists and I agree that they should be considered a distinct genre. Mackintosh calls it vocal psychedelia. I usually just say trap, but that feels both too narrow and too wide at this point...
Who are your favorites? I would add Gunna, Yeat and Migos to the bunch.
