TS: Limp Bizkit vs Nickelback

I know this is a hacky, cliched, early 2000s kinda topic, but the other night my son posed the question to me "If you could only have the music of one of these bands on a desert island...?" I've heard Limp Bizkit coming out of his speakers, and wouldn't be surprised if he liked a Nickelback song or two, so I suspect he was just trying to rile up an old hipster.

Knowing only the big singles from either band, I went with Nickelback. Although I have some respect for Wes Borland's riffage, Fred Durst's voice and lyrics have always annoyed me. While Nickelback's instrumentals aren't very dazzling, I thought they might serve as adequate background music. Also, he let me have the Chad Kroger track, Hero, from the end of Spider-Man, which I have a mild nostalgic attachment to.

I legitimately enjoy "Break Stuff." It's fun! AFAIK there are no fun Nickelback songs.

"Rollin" was the theme song to NHL Hitz 2003 which I played endlessly as a teen so I'll always love them for that

and yes that Bizkit's music is way more fun, I mean you could never do something this great with Nickelback

Back in the day, I preferred Nickelback to Limp Bizkit, who I thought were really annoying, but now I'd almost certainly switch my opinion (no real desire to go back and relisten). Bizkit were more ambitious and surprising even if not always successful; Nickelback stayed in the same bland lane for every song of theirs I've heard

the first limp bizkit album is SO energetic

I'd have to go with Limp Bizkit. If I'm stuck on a deserted island sniffing farts for eternity, I guess I'd end up preferring a little variety in the fart scent profiles instead of the same exact fart over and over again.

I actually worked for Nickelback's label for five years...and I'd still vote for them.

dunno if there's a more perfect chorus than "I love pants, and I love feet"

I vote Nickelback solely because “How You Remind Me” is the song that got Constantine Maroulis booted off of American Idol

has someone done a durstless mix of the first 3 bizkit albums because I love hearing that rhythm section when he's not yapping all over it

types of nickelback songs from worst to best:
- the sappy cliche ridden plodding blown out butt country ballads with absolutely nothing to recommend them
- the repulsively horny greasy misogynistic hard rockers which pair shockingly good riffing with utterly indefensible lyrics
- the down the middle mid tempo chuggers with heart on sleeve sentiments specific enough to feel genuine and broad enough to be relatable to anyone (most of the hits)

The first ten songs on Limp Bizkit's Greatest Hitz are just the thing sometimes. I was never a 'fan' yet I can sing along to all of those so maybe I was/am.

Except possibly the kinda boring hip hop cred one.

After that though the CD goes into the insipid sensitive-hulk stuff that plagued their later years.

I like their stabs at atmospheric quasi post-rock whatever on the first album too. Do they have fans that hold the opinion that they went wrong when they abandoned art rock? (Or did they, even? A Durstless version of those first three albums might reveal something very different at times. Wes Borland ended up making albums of AFX-inspired instrumental noodling as I understand it).

limp bizkit is the obvious choice tbh

nickelback wouldn't have been able to rhyme 'sorry' w/ 'story' on "how you remind me" (their one good song) if they weren't canadian

I don’t care about either of these bands but I was in a band with a friend of the nickleback bros so I’ll vote them. Alberta!
