Hoping Holy Wars won't just sweep the board on this one.

Their best, and sometimes when I'm listening I think its the best thrash LP of ALL.

It's probably Holy Wars but i'm also going for Five Magics

This thread sent me to Reddit to get notes on the differences between the original and the 2004 remix/remaster (for which Mustaine replaced some of the vocals, getting the lyrics wrong in the process). Anyway, I think I might be voting for "Tornado of Souls."

This album is about the most technical balls out rock record. It’s not really thrash like other bands of the ilk, it’s more like say something like UFO taken to the nth degree.

yeah, and part of that is why at first, I kinda bristled at it. as a kid I was used to Metallica, who were more 'hit you in the mouth', so the more progressive arrangements were initially annoying to me. and Peace Sells was more immediate and simple.

but a few years after i first bought it, it just clicked. the playing is so angular at times, and they try to stuff so much into short spaces.
probably the most straightforward song arrangement on there is "Tornado of Souls".

last time I saw Megadeth headline, we got "Holy Wars", "Hangar 18", "Poison was the Cure", and "Tornado of Souls", which was great.

I've seen them twice. First was in 1992, supported by Pantera. Still one of my favourite gigs.

I saw them four times, all in the 21st century. First time was in 2004 at Roseland with Exodus, and then Gigantour 2008 (with In Flames, High On Fire and Job For A Cowboy), Mayhem Festival 2011 (that was a work gig, because Megadeth, Machine Head and Trivium were all on the bill, so a squad of us Roadrunner Records employees made the trip down to south Jersey), and finally Gigantour 2012 with Lacuna Coil, Motörhead and Volbeat.

The first of those shows was the best, since it was Megadeth's comeback after Dave's injuries to his hand, and the lineup was Glen Drover on guitar, James McDonough on bass, and Shawn Drover on drums. The setlist was insane.

I saw them on tour for this album on the Clash of the Titans tour—Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer (with opening act, a small-time band called Alice in Chains). I was, I think, 15 years old, and it was probably the best metal show I’d ever seen.

One of my first shows was Testament (Souls of Black), Megadeth (Rust in Peace), and Judas Priest. I won the tickets from a radio call-in trivia thing. I think the question was to name three Testament albums. Amazing show.

Holy Wars...The Punishment Due is the apex of thrash metal. Speed, intricacy, dynamics, technicality, musically. Aggressive, progressive, yet always in service to the hook. Lyrically it blends thoughtful political/social commentary with comic book fantasy, which is thrash lyrics in a nutshell. It's Dave Mustaine's magnum opus.

Voted for the title track, but wish I had voted for Tornado of Souls. Listening now what strikes me is how Iron Maiden-y they both sound, especially ToS.

The first 20 seconds of Hangar 18 sounds like it could be Sonic Youth or something much indie-er.

It was his way of saying "I wrote Call of Ktulu" but it works since it's in chord form

This is exactly why I hate it; because it doesn't "blend" anything. He's writing a great song about sectarian conflict, and then he runs out of steam so he tacks on a verse about the fucking Punisher. He would have been better off just doing a guitar duel with Friedman for three minutes instead of that bullshit.
