I've read about this band Panther, and how they're the new Make-Up or MC5 or something, but haven't found their album yet. They're playing around here soon, should I check'em out?

where are you? is this the "Junior Panthers" you're talking about from SF? if so they used to be The Damsels and it's ho hum 60s/70s glam and pop

panthers.

(h)tmu <=> label site... note: i have not heard this record; however, i did see them open up for erase errata earlier this year (march-ish?) at the eagle. i loved them, i'm a huge, huge fan of j.chearno, he is fantastic to watch. my companions i attended with were drawn on the sheer hardcore/screamo pedigree of the other band members. most other reviews i saw propped up the MC5isms, i was less-inclined to draw that parallel.

I'm not a terribly big fan of them, though you could pick a worse garage rock revival type band to be a fan of. I saw them play a while back with Ted Leo, The Rapture and Engine Down. They were clearly not the stars of the show. I heard the record at a friend's, and it seems pretty... poor, maybe. Very energetic, pretty catchy, but very bland and with terribly lyrics. They were better live.

i'd rather they were the new moonshake.

I dunno, haven't heard 'em yet, but they're playing next week with some new band with ex-Don Cab people, so I may check it out.

A. Justin Chearno is my hero.
