Have I really never polled the four original tracks on this? Seems unlike me not to.

"That Girl" and "Do I Do" are two of the best new tracks recorded for a comp. Essential.

"Front Line" is the only one that I'd say is out of its league in the context of this comp.

The phenomenal part starts at 3:31.

"Do I Do," during my peak Stevie mania, was probably my favorite piece of recorded pop music ever (second possibly only to "Summer Soft")

Huh, never realized this comp had this gimmick. It must be hard to market a greatest hits record when the source albums are few in number, all widely acclaimed, and (mostly) massive sellers. Apparently it's only certified Gold in the US which is sort of nuts considering the stature of the artist and this period in his catalog. I feel like it could have been packaged a little more convincingly, but I guess I do like that it's own weird thing, accepting the impossibility of being truly comprehensive.

On first listen, they're all pretty good because Stevie Wonder is a genius, but I'm not sure any of them really stand up to their neighbors. Giving six minutes to "Ribbon in the Sky" - seemingly a long rough-draft vamp around a really lovely hook - seems outright rude considering everything that didn't make the cut for this tracklist. A nice simple two-minute run-through would have made a decent closer for the whole set.

And then "Do I Do" is TEN minutes?! Wow. On the other hand it's probably the most enjoyable listen of the four. The Dizzy introduction rules. Nice to know the source material for "Livin' It Up." This is the only one where the long extended groove/jam really comes to life --- could maybe lose a minute or two but I buy it as a joyous way to round out a two-disc experience.

had never heard "front line" before, it's pretty good. that said, the other three are unimpeachable classics. i think i'll give it to "do i do"

Motown is notorious for not submitting its albums for RIAA certification.

Does that mean the sales numbers on albums like Songs in the Key of Life are much greater than previously thought, or does it simply mean they don't get the platinum or diamond certification that usually comes with the numbers?

The 10x platinum for Songs may be legit; it was such a phenomenon. But keep in mind: the RIAA certifies each side of a double album.

Never seen the full clip before. About 7 minutes in, when everyone starts doing a line hustle around Stevie, I want to go to there
