don't want to make this a poll, but this was my first mountain goats record, released a bit over 30 years ago.

Itzcuintli-Totzli Days (1:24)
New Star Song (3:02)
Song for Cleomenes (3:50)
Sendero Luminoso Verdadero (3:08)
Song for Mark and Joel (2:13)
Going to Maryland (2:55)
Seeing Daylight (3:20)
Resonant Bell World (2:36)

probably would not have heard it had i not had a college radio show. and not really my thing at the time, but i found it striking. not sure how its author feels about it now (probably as a building block for later things they're more proud of?)

anyway if you have heard this EP, what did you think

cicero wrote it all down

I got this around the same time I got Nine Black Poppies and thought of them as kind of a matched set, and for whatever reason I played the hell out of Nine Black Poppies and neglected this one. Listening to it again, it's the opening track and Sendero Luminoso Verdadero that have stuck with me a bit. Still love the Nine Black Poppies songs to death.

A sentimental fave. Still have the 10", in addition to their early singles and tapes. I no longer have any other lps or eps (or even a turntable) so I guess John wins the hard format survival game here.

"Sendero Luminoso Verdadero" I will always have a very soft spot for because my friend and longtime KCRW librarian/DJ Eric J. Lawrence's band Peoplemover covered it live shortly after release, I know I heard a tape of that at least once. (Eric died last year and I still very much miss him.)
