Pino's daughter, pop with lots of '80s & '70s references that reminds me of a lot of the things that show up on ILM polls, but to me the songs are a lot stronger than anything I've heard in awhile.

Her 2018 single Shimmer did actually appear in our end of year poll that year.

The album is fantastic and a huge grower. It definitely reminds me of early Jessie Ware which makes sense as she played in her band for a while.

I thought about making a thread for this when it came out but I felt ever so slightly underwhelmed by it as a package when it arrived. I think that was mostly due to my expectations being set too high - "Stay With Me Through The Night" and "I Can't Dream Anymore" set an impossible pre-release standard. It's still one of my favourite albums of the year, if not my #1 as I had thought it might be.

It feels like something beamed in directly from of 2011-2012 - Jessie Ware from that time period, for sure, but there's something slightly more vaporous about the tracks that aren't singles in particular that, to me, bring to mind the likes of Nite Jewel, Games' "Strawberry Skies", and other ersatz 80s blogpop from that era.

I've been hearing that 2011 is back

I really like this album but feel the same way as monotony I think - what is so lovely as a one-off blast like on "Stay With Me Through The Night" gets a little bit downgraded from "overwhelming" to "whelming" across a whole album.

A bit like the similar Lou Hayter album from a few years ago (though it's a bit better than that) where I really liked the album but ultimately just used the cover of "Time Out Of Mind" (esp. Ashley Beedle remix of same) as a stand-in for listening to the whole thing.

Love this, bought it pretty quick when it came out.

The 2011 talk has me wondering about Jai Paul's involvement. It's the first release on "Paul Institute" not by a Paul. Though apparently they don't produce on it.

jai paul duets with fabiana on “i care”

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Thursday, 11 July 2024 13:33 (one year ago)

yeah there's not much else credited. And yet in articles she's referred to as his "protege"

maf you one two (maffew12), Thursday, 11 July 2024 14:05 (one year ago)

CD version has credits. Every song is credited as produced by Fabiana Palladino and Co-produced by Jai Paul, Harry Craze and Pino Palladino.

She has worked with Jai Paul on all of her tracks.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 11 July 2024 14:53 (one year ago)

They refer to Jai as her protege because, iirc, he wrote to her years ago after listening to some soundcloud demos to invite her to sing in an (AK Paul) song and she was signed to the Paul Institute shortly after.

In this interview she confirms he was involved across the project

I think the lack of information comes from Jai Paul being very elusive and unconcerned about those things but afaik every artist connected to the Paul Institute is coproduced by either Jai or AK.

can confirm she is great live

also the guys in her backing band are cute

Murgatroid, Friday, 2 May 2025 00:42 (three months ago)

I caught her show two nights ago and yeah, I was captivated, what a singer. And her band was so good. I just love her whole style, it's a breath of fresh air. The attention to detail in that mid-'80s sound is so spot-on.
