Back and hope for better things after the lull.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 9 July 2024 18:46 (one year ago)

Rosalía, Kamasi Washington, Sons of Kemet, Makaya McCraven, and Autechre all possibilities.

Instead of create and send out, it pull back and consume (unperson), Tuesday, 9 July 2024 18:49 (one year ago)

tough choice between julia holter+noname. shout to tracey, but my vote is going elsewhere.

hms not listed: jon hassell, steve tibbetts, king krule live on the moon, +the sea and cake. darn solid year!

low

nxd, Tuesday, 9 July 2024 19:13 (one year ago)

The Beths get my vote. That album still has insane replay value.

Robyn, Low, Janelle Monae, Mitski, SOPHIE, Kali Uchis, Christine & The Queens, Tracey Thorn and Hop Along all make this a very strong year.

kitchen person, Tuesday, 9 July 2024 19:47 (one year ago)

Nothing I particularly love here. I was mostly listening to metal from this year.

o. nate, Tuesday, 9 July 2024 21:14 (one year ago)

Yeah, pretty alienating list for me. I'd have New Bodies by Tangents, The Good the Bad & the Queen, Simmy or Leila Abdul-Rauf (although it should be the Boygenius ep really).

I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Tuesday, 9 July 2024 21:18 (one year ago)

At the time it was a tie between Yves Tumor and SOPHIE. I had not yet heard the Daphne & Celeste.

Today it still a tie between Yves Tumor and SOPHIE. And there is no option for Daphne & Celeste. The three of them are five of my favourite albums of the last six years.

bummed that saba's care for me did not make the cut :(

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 9 July 2024 21:21 (one year ago)

in that case, rosalia. that album was a true game changer

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 9 July 2024 21:21 (one year ago)

I also loved:
George Clanton - Slide
RP Boo - I'll Tell You What!
Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto - Glass
Félicia Atkinson & Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - Limpid as the Solitudes
BEAST - Ens
The Good, the Bad & the Queen - Merrie Land
Dirty Projectors - Lamp Lit Prose
Aïsha Devi - DNA Feelings
Peder Mannerfelt - Daily Routine
Booker Stardrum - Temporary etc.

This was a nice year for it

Parquet Courts - Wide Awake!

Also seeing them with the Sun Ra Arkestra was my favorite show of the year. Love the band and have enjoyed pretty much everything they've released but that album is probably my favorite.

birdistheword, Tuesday, 9 July 2024 21:40 (one year ago)

Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour
Arctic Monkeys - Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino
Yves Tumor - Safe in the Hands of Love
Julia Holter - Aviary
Autechre - NTS Sessions 1-4

amazing year. probably going with autechre because it feels like it had the longest-term impact on my listening

christine and the queens is an easy #1 for me, the only other ones i really care about are cardi b, tierra whack, kacey, the 1975 and snail mail.

some dude, Tuesday, 9 July 2024 22:44 (one year ago)

Low or SOPHIE for me, went with Low

Aviary

willips brighton the quorners (geoffreyess), Wednesday, 10 July 2024 14:28 (one year ago)

The only ones I remember from this year are Jon Hopkins and Let's Eat Grandma. Hopkins was extremely enjoyable for a couple weeks, but I've never revisited it. I enjoyed the run-up to Let's Eat Grandma, but when album time came I couldn't eat a whole one.

Kamasi Washington, Sons of Kemet, Makaya McCraven from unperson's selections seem like things that would land for me now that I wouldn't have been interested in then. will check them out.

Snail Mail is still a great record, wasn't expecting that.

I expect Low to walk this but I still don't get it.

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 July 2024 05:05 (one year ago)

I don't remember Spiritualized at all

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 July 2024 05:12 (one year ago)

tirzah. been really feeling tirzah lately tbh

I expect Low to walk this but I still don't get it.

does a comparison to loveless help

ufo, Saturday, 13 July 2024 09:22 (one year ago)

I'm going with Snail Mail

That MGMT album is brilliant too. Their best.

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Saturday, 13 July 2024 12:16 (one year ago)

Interesting as they don't remind me of MBV. Mind you, I saw the Loveless tour at the Roxy in Hollywood, two out of the three nights. One night my friend jumped on stage and kissed Belinda on the cheek, I think it scared her to death. He was frying his balls off at night.

autechre definitely

Aviary

Cognosc in Tyrol (emsworth), Monday, 15 July 2024 02:33 (one year ago)

I always think that this 1975 album is the worst of the middle three but it has;

"Give Yourself a Try"
"TooTimeTooTimeTooTime"
"Love It If We Made It"
"Be My Mistake"
"Sincerity Is Scary"
"I Like America & America Likes Me"
"It's Not Living (If It's Not with You)"
"I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)"

That is quite an album.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 16 July 2024 16:41 (one year ago)

yeah...it's not all gold outside the singles but it's their best run of singles imo

some dude, Tuesday, 16 July 2024 18:11 (one year ago)

idles being #1 here is incredibly embarrassing for critics as a whole

ufo, Wednesday, 17 July 2024 12:30 (one year ago)

I haven't heard the record but "A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships" is one of the worst album titles I have ever heard

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 17 July 2024 12:40 (one year ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Thursday, 18 July 2024 00:01 (one year ago)

I have been listening to random albums on these polls to make up my mind. Some I have heard for the first time and others to remind me of a certain year and how much I loved it during the year. I would talk about that more but there just isn't that much discussion, not like there used to be, so I keep quiet.

Anyways, in the end I voted for MGMT, not only was that an amazing tour but listening to the album made up my mind. Album hold up and now thinking about it, I haven't gone back to this years release at all.

I forgot to vote - but the two albums which are by far my favourites both got 0, so they're equal at least

you can see me from westbury white horse, Friday, 19 July 2024 00:47 (one year ago)

did not expect *anyone* else to vote for Amen Dunes!

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 19 July 2024 01:33 (one year ago)

only 1 vote for El mal querer is a tragedy
