There are four tracks here that appeared pre-emptively (by a week) on CD2 Now 43 - Better Off Alone, Lovestruck, I Know What I'm Here For and To Be in Love. Which are my four favourites, along with If Ya Gettin' Down and Tinseltown to the Boogiedown.
-If Ya Gettin' Down is just kinda high quality Five in stomp mode, if you like that sort of thing, which I do. It's their career equivalent to a Tiger Feet or something. I appreciate it isn't as good as Tiger Feet.
-Better Off Alone works especially well as a 12", unlike say "Synth & Strings" or "The Launch". Not the best pop-trance crossover of 99 although it is probably the one that points closest to the Clubland-style euro-trance that came along in 2002
-Lovestruck? The rest of Wonderful is more interesting but I guess it's the obvious lead single. "The Sun and the Rain"-esque chorus I love. I do prefer Southside Spinners though.
-I Don't Know What You Want - Superior cut off the parent album, not least because of Morales. Where "Being Boiled" was a relatively gentle glance towards deep house this is more full on.
-I Know What I'm Here For kinda reminds me of SFA, in the fidgety bassline and the vocoder after the second chorus. The main melody is almost a jig right? Great album too
-To Be in Love is perfectly fine second drawer MAW, though their dub mix is superior to the radio cut. It wasn't long before an especially jazz-funky feel came over their pop remixes, see especially Aaliyah and Spice Girls
-Tinseltown to the Boogiedown was I think the first I heard of Mos Def, when it appeared on some Q compilation I picked up at a charity shop or bootsale in the 00s. It's all about when Green comes in on the chorus. With that voice of his.
There are others there I enjoy but yeah

This one isn't on spotify. Interpolates Heart of Glass by Blondie. Apparently they were a duo and one of them (not the one in the video) was the son/nephew of the two brothers from Middle of the Road. Discogs says the other guy's name was 'Donald McDonald' but a there's a comment under the video left by the account of a band called Spooner which says he was called Dudley and later recorded an album with Spooner called 'Warm Brown Tones'

The Scritti Politti song is all time, but i do love both the Five and Pet Shop Boys songs also.

missed this but I would have voted for Deborah Cox, just because that "you've been cheating and telling me lies" chorus feels like a key part of the early noughties bassline/niche continuum after being sampled a million times
