i know there are some fans here so surprised there wasn't a thread already. new album 'has it been a while?' out november. was very underrated, retired for a bit, and then has been drip feeding some of my favourite songs of recent years (london was the best song of that year). title track of new one:

THANK YOU FOR STARTING THIS THREAD I've spent the last 15 minutes buying the album, booking album launch tickets and messaging Ellis about how exciting this all is. The other advance single is even more amazing

That's a very nice bossa nova, and the other track is giving me Nick Drake vibes? This isn't my area of expertise but any singer/songwriter stuff that draws me in and actually has me listening to the lyrics must be amazing.

hoping the record breaks containment because he's writing the best songs of his career. here's the pentangle jangle tune london from last year

ellis is a diamond guy. such an honest, personal and sincere songwriter. their discography and in/out line up of their heyday was like watching soap opera unfold. just genuine, beautiful freaks. i tear up sometimes over the heart in the lyricism on 'seems unfair'. he wrote a book on DIY music, too. it's lovely to hear a more mellow side now.

three months pass...

Oh hey, I only now remembered that the whole album is out now

Oh shit I never bumped this. The album is utterly beautiful and the Ivy House launch show was so lovely

yeah, I held off getting a copy till the ivy house show so heard most of it for the first time there. really beautiful record, feels kind of timeless in a way not much music does. 'in the air' probably my fav song.

one month passes...

Really lovely album discovered via the EOY nominations - could imagine Tracey Thorn singing the title track of the new one; opening and closing tracks are sublime, too. What are people's favourites from the earlier recordings? "Carson McCullers" is very fizzy.

"Abundant" is one of the greatest songs of the last decade imo

I'd generally say that TF as a full band improved throughout, peaking with BTB, but the reboot as a smaller concern is achieving incredible heights of a different, more singer-songwritery nature

"uk act 'trust fund'"
you mean the 95% of indie rock/post punk uk groups? (eg, black midi, bcnr)
