Dummy (the band) - genuinely interesting

No thread on the band Dummy - LA band with great boy/girl vocals and a penchant for channeling Stereolab, MBV, Cocteaus and other shoegazers into something different. 2nd LP, "Free Energy", just came out and it's one of my favorite things this year.

enjoyed their debut a lot, great MBV/stereolab/broadcast pastiche, just about the best stuff you could steal. have to add that i had to unfollow whoever runs their twitter account because they were super annoying

haven't listened to this, have been meaning to. thanks for the reminder

Free Energy is excellent. They tick all the ‘90s boxes I like (Stereolab, YLT, Luna). I’ll take this over that Lenderman fella that everyone is trying to annoint.

one month passes...

this album is really lovely, nails the sounds it's going for

New album is one of my faves of the year. I love the synthesis of their influences along with some interesting ideas. It's a great ride, and the interstitial instrumentals are key.

I like the album, but alpine static OTM

I don't know if it's quite AOTY tier for me, but I do enjoy this record a lot. "Blue Dada" is so good.

Also, this band gets +10 ILM Points for having a song called "Opaline Bubbletear": both a perfect fake Stereolab song title and an Elden Ring reference

New interview with the band. Elden Ring apparently a heavy influence

Okay, their show at Open Melody earlier this year was even better than the first time I saw them, but their forthcoming album? Absolutely leaning even more into making a whole range of 90s sounds their own and specifically its own specific thing they do. Touring soon for it, strongly suggest going.

One of my most anticipated records. And, indeed, don't miss a chance to see them live.

Indeed, don't miss them, because they were better than ever last night:

I love them. Very excited for the new record.

Sadly they aren't on the east coast any time soon, but I will definitely be there if they come through Philly. The record is fantastic, I've listened to the whole thing twice already

This is a fantastic album. These guys are turning into a really special band.

the last one hit a real sweetspot as far as stereolab-adjacent 90s revivalism goes but i'm not feeling this one as much. it has more ideas of its own but the songs are weaker. it's still not bad though
