Didn't find a thread for this. I wanna say up front that I'm not starting this thread to be mean-spirited. You're playing for an audience, you're really getting into it, maybe you're not paying the closest attention to your facial expressions. This is more likely to happen for guys, cuz their appearances don't get scrutinized the way women's appearances do. Overall though I don't think anybody gotta look attractive at all times.
That said. I came across this really old Youtube video which points out drummer John Weathers' face. They're playing a gig on TV and the editor or in-vision mixer or whoever decides, hey, let's give the drummer some. And maybe the camera angle they're using isn't perhaps the most flattering in the world. And, well.

@kallemattila58706 years agoPutting the slow zoom in on Weathers at exactly 2:29 must be one of the greatest artistic decisions by anyone ever, on any medium.

I usually look ridiculous when I play drums because I unconsciously vocalize what I'm playing, seems like he's probably doing a bit of that. Trying to fix your face while keeping four limbs going is too much to ask.

Guitar faces!Guitar Players Painfully Overwhelmed by the Power of their Own Rocking: A Picture Thread

Was thinking of making a thread like this for a long time and not restricted to any specific instrument, I guess since this starts with a drummer then this is a better occasion than the guitar threads. I love this kind of thing.
The woman who stands out most in my memory is the keyboard player from The Dears. She was constantly making faces.
The main guy from Camel.
Ian Anderson is notable but it doesn't seem like the faces have much to do with playing an instrument? I guess he's sort of dancing and getting into the performance.
There was a classical pianist, I think he was chinese american or english? He got criticized for making nutty faces.
This performance by Focus tops everything I've seenhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4ouPGGLI6Q

My friend saw London Wainwright III several years ago and said that he would make weird “sexy” faces after singing certain lines, guess it was pretty weird
