John Zorn: S & D

I downloaded 3 Zorn songs knowing very little about them. They're all totally insane and have nothing in common. I checked it out and he has roughly 8 billion albums.

So, S & D...

i knew we had this conversation not SO long ago.

faves: naked city, spy vs. spy, and torture garden for crazy stuff... masada 2cd for smooth, ethnic joys... but the big gundown (his ennio morricone songs) is my favorite by far.

S: Masada (fuckin' great, they've got ten friggin' discs), Naked City (he even had the Kronos Quartet perform the compositions from this, which sounds AMAZING), and Mike Patton's second solo album Pronzo Ostranzio (which also features Marc Ribot)

D: whatever that japanese "cartoon music" CD was that was 99 tracks that were all less than 45 seconds long and were basically just as many instruments as you can imagine tweaking the fuck out as hard as they can...it's neat for the first 2 tracks, but gets old REAL quick

Only heard 'Spillane' and it's excellent - one of the best 'imaginary soundtrack' records out there.

Taboo and Exile is a pretty good cross section of the non-Masada stuff
