"I Am a Viking" and "I'll See the Light Tonight" are fun, "Black Star" is good but waaaay too short (a measly 4.51), so it's gotta be "Icarus Dream Suite op. 4"

Isn't "IDSo4" what Mahavishnu would've sounded like if Hammer had run everything instead of McLaughlin?

I pick the guitar solo that goes:
DIDL-DIDL-DIDL-DIDL-DI-DI-DI-DI-DI-DI-DI-DI-WEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHH!!!!!

Yeah, what's that one with the really ridiculous lyrics? That's my favorite.

paul cox (paul cox), Friday, 6 December 2002 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It's got to be "I Am A Viking", for sure.

James Annett (jlannett), Friday, 6 December 2002 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

"the queen in love"!

Surely the airplane tantrum far surpasses the rest of his recorded oeuvre!?

Actually, I was pleasantly surprised by his Concerto Suite in Eb minor - his style of playing works much better when it's not surrounded by badly written stadium rock with ludicrous 80s vocals. And his cover of Aerosmith's Dream On is also quite good, much less over the top as you'd expect.

But the airplane rant is hard to surpass, I agree...

I think "I Am A Viking" is funnier. He really unleashes the fucking fury on that one, that's for sure.

Doesn't he say released not unleashed though...
