Yeah, surely a lot of classic rock bands who kept making albums past their peak, but there are more recent examples:

pk your use of "classic rock" inspired a tangent in my brain.
the mbv thread made me look them up and their top ten is all loveless. that made me want to look at sonic youth and the most recent one in theirs is from rather ripped. that made me want to look at an active band and pixies most recent thing is from their 2016 album. so i decided to look up a more arena-oriented band and red hot chili peppers have the same scenario as pixies: most recent is from 2016. the cure's most recent is from the 90s. the early 90s.
are these all classic rock acts now? this is not a rhetorical question. how does one distinguish the 'classic rock' eras of skynyrd and the chili peppers do that nobody gets confused about what genre of classic rock we're talkin about? i propose "legacy alternative", mostly as a joke but kind of out of necessity.
anyway, good thread. jaymc's example also goes for a lot of past hypeworthy indie groups that are still going.

jeez i just fell down a rabbit hole looking at "legacy alternative" bands i used to love. wow. clueless existential posting. one thing i did learn is that i am completely out of the consensus when it comes to belle and sebastian.
