i got really into some of her 'traditional' songcraft albums last year - car and freezer and imitation of life are just wonderful - so i'm really looking forward to this. the single is lovely

I love the Drive My Car score but haven't really explored her work otherwise.

it's funny that bones, deservedly, seemed to prime her to breakout at which point her music became more insular and experimental and at the same time the soundtrack work made her more well known than ever. v excited for this.

been seeing the name a lot more frequently and the new song is really captivating. abstract, but not cloying. good start to the year!

Someone posted a recent show on d!me by Kafka's Ibiki, the trio she has with Jim O'Rourke and Tatsuhisa Yamamoto. I've only listened to the first of two 45 minute pieces so far and it's great.

She's playing a tiny (40p?) venue in Tokyo soon and I'm very upset I'm going to miss it.

She played a 200p capacity venue in SF for comparison.

enjoyed GIFT, especially her performance. though found it profoundly disappointing they had included subtitles and explanatory text in that version of the film.

album is even better than i hoped for.

will do a nice little dive through her pop stuff today (heard and liked bones a while back but this is another level)

yeah the dream my bones dream is one of her weaker songwriter albums i think, but none are bad really. imitation of life and antigone are my other favourites.

her first two solo albums, works for everything and drifting devil, are the most chaotic

i don't necessarily want 'most chaotic' tbf! c&f is a completely wonderful blend of high musicianship and intricate composition with evocative introspection, even vaguely talk talkish energy at points

like, the earcandy production and composition applied to larger landscapes of the heart is what's really selling this. nevertheless if she has any weirdo microprog i'm obviously going to enjoy that too lol ty

you should really like imitation of life and antigone then, antigone especially is quite talk talk-esque. but yeah i think it is important to point out the weirdo microprog too lol
