Although their debut 'Who Let The Dogs Out' just came out today, they seem to have been percolating around the UK for a bit. Based on the fact that I am seeing write-ups about the group in Rolling Stone and Variety, among others, methinks that there's something percolating in Brighton.
I checked it out and... Damn, it really hit me the same way that Idles and Amyl & The Sniffers did when I first heard those bands: High energy, punk, post-punk, modern-day girl power (someone online said they were like Spice Girls meets Prodigy, which wasn't what I got but whatever floated their boated), pissed off at a lot of things but partying for their right to fight.
Some ear and eye candy:
"White Van" their second single from 2023.

I am smitten. They are playing some very small venues in the US this year - I just purchased tix to see them at the 150 capacity Ukie Club in Philly in May. I would bet money that the show gets moved to a larger venue before then.

I listened to a few of their songs. Not sure I’m into that British style of attitude-talking instead of singing.

LOL at Spice Girls meets Prodigy. Not totally inaccurate!
Heard this the other day and it felt like a midpoint between Amyl and the Sniffers and cumgirl8 (who I don't think we've talked about yet on here, but are coming from a similar POV, I think)

Apparently last year they made the cover of Kerrang! with an interview featuring them and Sleater Kinney.

I don't consider this "metal" (and certainly never thought Kerrang! covered SK before) but maybe I am wrong on both counts.

I heard about Cumgirl8 from Chuck Eddy who liked one of their singles a couple years ago. I liked em lots, saw them a couple times in concert and picked up their stuff up until last year's album which didn't do it for me.

Listened to this and it didn't really move me. The hooks were there but kinda just sounded like IDLES/Amyl. It also felt a little like each song was just ticking off a checklist of their political views. This one is their anti-gentrification one, this is the one about impossible beauty standards, etc... Just all felt a little didactic. I didn't hate it but would have liked it to have been done a little more artfully maybe?

they've been on every festival bill and support slot in the UK for about 3 years now, surprised its taken this long for them to get a debut out - i'm guessing combination of a really good agent/manager and youthful energy to do so many shows.
kerrang long ceased to be a "metal" magazine, its basically anything that is/could be marketed as rock-adjacent. and weirdly i think they only produce 1 physical magazine every 2/3 months, but have a "Cover Story" each week on the website. in a way i guess that means they can include artists who may not have predictably "sold magazines" in the past.

2 completely unrelated friends have mentioned this band recently and I even live in Brighton and have "heard of" them for a couple of years but I've still never actually listened to them. a comparison to Idles doesn't help tbh. this made me lol though "It also felt a little like each song was just ticking off a checklist of their political views" I mean afaik this is a punk band right?

A little didactic, sure, but these songs fucking rip

Don't get me wrong, I'm pro-politics in music, I just felt it was a little on the nose. Put a little more art in it, would be nice.
